BALTIMORE (Map, News) - Two nude protesters from the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals were shooed away from the West North Avenue franchise of KFC on Monday by Baltimore police, but the women were not arrested.

Wearing only pasties to cover the nipples of their breasts, underwear and high-heeled shoes, the women were protesting the method the fast-food restaurant chain uses to kill chickens before frying them.

The women also carried a banner that read: "The Naked Truth: KFC Tortures Chicks."

Police and city transportation officials responded to the scene when a traffic jam formed along the street.

KFC spokesman Rick Maynard said the restaurant chain is "proud of our responsible, industry-leading animal welfare guidelines."

"We buy our chickens from the same trusted brands that consumers buy from in local supermarkets, and that other fast-food companies purchase from," he said.

The protest was organized by PETA's national office in Norfolk, Va.

Okay, so I eat meat. I won't lie. However, if I EVER were to become vegetarian/vegan, I don't think it would be due to the hand of radical protesters who display themselves: a) partially nude on the sidewalk, b) partially nude shrink wrapped, or c) partially nude in cages. It is a complete INSULT to my intelligence that the best arguement that can be formulated by PETA involves radical acts that let's be honest; aren't winning any votes. I'm not even going to take a biased stance on the topic. If hunters dressed up like naked packaged produce to convince vegetarians to eat meat I'd be making fun of them for staging an arguement which is illogical and not convincing. Petition legislator or influence people by treating them as wise decision makers, not accept-any-protest-they-see-on-the-street bafoons.

How could they be nude protesters if they are wearing pasties and panties? A sensationalist headline if ever I saw one, it would have been more appropriate if you'd written 'scantily clad protesters' at least it would have been accurate and factual. Pete Knight A nudist who knows what nude really is!!

North Avenue? One of the most dangerous places in Baltimore to hold a protest? All I can say is try that at night on North Ave and see how long you last without being assaulted by the night hoodlums of Baltimore. Remember, Baltimore has the HIGHEST percentage of heroin users in the USA!

The PETA Kooks are at it again. Down in Florida there is/was one who wanted everyone to stop driving several months out of the year because too many "Love-Bugs" were being killed.

How can you write "nude protesters" and then say they had on pasties and underwear? "nude" is unclothed. Guess sex sells .. whether it is accurate or not.

everybody seems to missing the point here - the protest was at KFC because these huge corporations with their market share very effectively dictate how livestock is raised. Any decent person would be sickened by how animals are treated in our current food production system. People blubber over the cruel treatment of cute kitties and doggies but turn a blind eye to what goes on with the animals they eat. This ain't your Grandma's farm any more, folks. The productions methods are frequently not only cruel to the animals but to the workers as well, and create horrible environmental situations. When profit is the only concern in food production, we get bad practices that shame us as a nation and help to create diseases like ecoli and salmonella. Don't be so flip and ignorant. Eat locally and cleanly produced meat.

IDIOTS! Apparently these are people who don't know how to cook meat. The chickens HAVE to be killed before they're cooked. How they're killed is KFC's suppliers business. I have never been to a KFC in my life where the chickens were being butchered in the back of the building. Their protest should have been at farm where the chickens were being slaughtered, if they wanted to be true to their purpose. Apparently the war on ignorance has been lost.
