A group of San Francisco public transit users have some information for Muni: They want their bus back. Bayview residents are staging a protest at City Hall tonight to present Mayor Gavin Newsom and Muni Executive Director Nathaniel Ford with a petition demanding restoration of the 15-Third line, which was eliminated in April.
Bayview residents will gather on Third Street this evening to protest the embattled T-Third metro line and demand that the 15-Third bus, which was canceled when the T-Third began operating seven days a week, be brought back.
During the last two weeks, residents who are members of the Association of Community Organization for Reform Now — a national advocacy group for low- and moderate-income families — collected hundreds of signatures against the T-Third, which will be presented to Mayor Gavin Newsom and Muni Executive Director Nathaniel Ford.
What do you think? Should Muni restore the 15-Third line?
Your comments will appear shortly after they are posted.

The failed T- Line is Willie Brown's legacy, his gift to his constiuents of the Bayview district, who supported him with 95% of the votes in every election. I'm sure the contractors, and Minority-owned subcontractors on this project made LOTS OF MONEY, and that's what it was all about for Willie. So what if it ultimately hurts those residents? Willie doesn't need their vote anymore. Get over it!
The San Francisco Art Institute has a graduate campus on 3rd St. Without the 15, it now takes students anywhere from 1-2 hours to get from the Chestnut St. campus to 3rd St. This is absurd. In a city 7x7 miles - why does it take 2 hours to get somewhere??? Losing the 15 also hurts SFAI.
Bring back the 15-Third so more assaults and robberies can be committed. The 15 was the second most violent bus route next to the 14-Mission and our beloved thugs need people to prey on in close quarters.
everybody is missing the point. the #15 bus has nothing to do with the T-rail system. there has to be bus transit going along Bayshore Blvd. the #9's don't transit into that area. the #15 must be reinstated on its original route.
I've been very pleased with the 9BX bus as a replacement for the 15 as far as the North of market commute. The 15 never seemed to run regularly. The new 9BX goes all the way to the Wharf rather than turning around at Chinatown and runs consistently and frequently. A big improvement for me!
The #15 not only served Third Street in South East San Francisco but also went North on Kearny all the way to Fisherman's Wharf bringing people to an from the Financial District through SoMa and back right to the Montgomery Street Station. Of course it was FASTER than a train and much SIMPLER! The T-Third Light Rail Train system is designed for something that doesn't even exist yet:
SEE ALL THOSE NEW OFFICE BUILDINGS AND MEDICAL RESEARCH FACILITIES SOUTH OF THE BALL PARK! That's what it's designed for, when those buildings are filled with thousands of new people working and living along the Third Sreet Corridor a Mission Bay and SoMa! It's for the FUTURE! Not for people who have to get where they need to go right NOW!
I think they should bring the 15 bus line back because the t-third just been causing problem since they put it there. The 15 was more reliable then the t-third. The point of put the t-third was to please the rider and inprove the service. But instead the t-third havent made no improvement. So bring the 15 bus line back. This is coming from a old 15 rider.I rode the T-third once or twice.I'll never get back on there again i rather catch another bus line.
People have to get to school and work every day. They don't have a year or so for the T-line to improve. During the weekend trial period, the buses consistently beat the T-line side by side.
Geez, The T-line has not been in operation for a whole year yet. And the MUNI haters are demanding a change. At least give Muni an appropriate period of time to improve the T-Line. If after an appropriate period of time, T-Line has not improved, then bring back the 15-Third. I rode the 15 - Third a few times and I found it incredibly slow and inefficient. At least the T-line has dedicated lanes on Third Street which is much better than when 15 -Third was in operation.
No, after investing so much time, money and planning, sf can not affort to let the line go like that.
Sure, revisions on routes and/or running more efficiently is what it needs.
Give it more time.
It's time the poor and disenfranchised stopped getting the slip. Why is it alwayws that those who can least afford it get the worst treatment? It's just not right. Quit crapping on the residents and give them back the 15-Third bus line that they so badly need.
Although I've only ridden #15 a handful of times, I remember it being quite reliable--at least more than the T-Third appears to be. If the #15 works better for the majority of people, then it should be restored.
