Supervisor Jake McGoldrick introduced legislation Tuesday that would require landlords to re-key or replace locks on all outside doors after tenants move out and before new tenants move in.

“There is a large proportion of residential units in The City. The board finds that re-keying or replacing outside door locks whenever tenants vacate a unit would contribute to safety and security,” the legislation says.

McGoldrick was prompted to introduced the legislation after hearing from a number of constituents who said they were burglarized soon after moving into their rental unit.

Report says San Francisco homeless shelters a disgrace

Supervisor Tom Ammiano will speak today at a press conference organized to announce a report that alleges that San Francisco’s shelters are in “shocking and disgraceful conditions,” according to a press release sent from his office.

Created by a San Francisco nonprofit, The Coalition on Homelessness, the report outlines the survey results of interviews with 215 shelter residents, and compiles evidence from government sources, according to the release.

The event will be held on the steps of City Hall at noon.

Agency head to hold meeting on commuter concerns

San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency head Nathaniel Ford is scheduled to hold a noon town-hall meeting today to address issues of concern for Caltrain and Muni commuters.

The Muni system is working to correct backups and inefficiencies that appeared after the launch of the T-Third line on April 7.

The meeting will take place at the Port Commission hearing room on the second floor of the San Francisco Ferry Building, at Market Street and the Embarcadero.
