At the request of Supervisor Ed Jew, a Board of Supervisors committee will hold a hearing Monday on the safety standards and the quality of patient care at Laguna Honda Hospital.

Jew’s request follows a $100,000 citation issued by the state as a penalty for failing to care properly for an elderly patient who was found dead on hospital grounds in October 2006.

The Board of Supervisors Government Audit and Oversight Committee will hold the hearing on Laguna Honda Hospital on Monday, at 10 a.m., at City Hall, room 250.

Panel on park road closings to convene next week

A Board of Supervisors committee will hold a hearing Monday on Supervisor Jake McGoldrick’s legislation that would enact a six-month trial period of prohibiting cars from driving along a section of roadway in Golden Gate Park on Saturdays.

The controversial legislation would close a 1.5-mile stretch of John F. Kennedy Drive and some connecting roads in the park for a six-month period. The same roadways have been closed to cars on Sunday for decades. The Board of Supervisors Land Use and Economic Development Committee will vote on the legislation on Monday, at 2:30 p.m., at City Hall, room 263.

Newsom announces next town hall-style meeting

Mayor Gavin Newsom announced Wednesday that his fourth town hall-style meeting will be held on April 21 to discuss “San Francisco’s Children, Youth and their Families.”

The meetings have been billed by Newsom’s office as a response to a voter-approved initiative that asked The City’s mayor to appear monthly at a Board of Supervisors meeting.

The meeting will take place on April 21, at 2 p.m., at the Excelsior Boys & Girls Club, located at 163 London St. at Excelsior Avenue.
