Kucinich’s wife: A Web sight?

They are perhaps Washington’s unlikeliest couple: the 60-year-old diminutive congressman from Cleveland and the 29-year-old statuesque redhead from the English countryside.

Nevertheless, Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, the long-shot presidential candidate, and his wife of two years, Elizabeth, have become as indivisible as any political couple in recent memory.

And nowhere can their affection be seen more prominently than on Kucinich’s Web site for his presidential campaign (www.kucinich.us).

There, you can find Elizabeth’s own link at the top of the page. You can find Elizabeth blogging about her latest topic of interest (“The administration is beating drums to war with Iran. This must not happen!”). You can check out pictures of her and by her in “Elizabeth Kucinich’s Photo Gallery.”

You can find out about romantic evenings spent by the couple, as in this post from Feb. 13: “Dennis and I had a wonderful weekend in Cleveland at district events. Late at night snuggling up to watch DVDs with our 3 dogs Harry, George and Lucie. We call it our Doggy cinema.”

And there are enough adorable, lovey-dovey photos of the couple to put some wedding Web sites to shame.

To political junkies, the story of Dennis and Elizabeth is familiar. The pair first met in his Capitol Hill office in 2005. Soon after, they shared an impromptu lunch at Shirley MacLaine’s house in Santa Fe., N.M. Weeks later, they were married.

Since then, they’ve been “nearly inseparable,” said one Yeas & Nays source who has attended several functions at which the couple appeared.

At the Democratic National Committee’s cattle call of presidential candidates earlier this month, the congressman opened his address by asking the audience to “please join me in welcoming my wife, Elizabeth, who is a great humanitarian and by my side every step of the way.”

He went on to refer to her another five times in the short address, including an extended reference to the 9/10 Project — “an idea of Elizabeth’s … to rediscover who we were before 9/11, to envision the community we want.”

Ditto at the unveiling of his bill to create a Department of Peace on Feb. 6, when he acknowledged her at length as she stood in the front of the room.

And Elizabeth did the honors of introducing the 9/10 Forum in the all-important primary state of New Hampshire — an event that got her some airtime on C-SPAN.

Neither the congressman nor a member of his campaign could be reached over the long weekend, but spokesman Doug Gordon told The Hill newspaper last fall that “Elizabeth has a very strong desire to make a difference in this community and discuss the issues that the congressman works on.”

‘Fresh Prince’ butler comes to Washington

Fans of the popular 1990s show “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air” may know actor Joseph Marcell as Geoffrey the butler (or, as Will Smith called him on the show, “G”). Marcell played the British butler who stole scenes with his sarcasm and complaints about how poorly he was treated by the Banks family.

Those same fans might do a double take as they spot Marcell around Washington this month. Marcell plays the role of Solly Two Kings, a former slave and Union Army scout, in August Wilson’s “Gem of the Oceans,” playing at the Arena Stage through March 18.

Marcell, a British citizen, has been through Washington before, including his first visit in 1974, when he was with the Royal Shakespeare Company. But this time around, he has one very specific impression: “It’s cold!”

While here, Marcell has enjoying touring the city by foot, and he’s fond of both Georgetown (“I like the kind of bohemian, yuppie feel of it”) and the National Portrait Gallery. He admits that he’s been recognized by a handful of Washingtonians, even though he keeps his appearance “a bit scruffy.”

Marcell’s careful not to talk about politics.

“I’m a guest in this country, and I better be careful how I talk about these things,” he said. “My day-to-day relationships with Americans are all very cordial, and Americans are all very friendly. I simply allow politicians to do their thing.”

D.C. denizens reconvene in Vegas

Several of Washington’s most visible women picked up and moved the party to Las Vegas this weekend during the NBA’s All-Star festivities.

Washingtonians Jaci Wilson Reid and Morris Reid, both White House aides under President Clinton, hosted the Sixth Annual NBA Wives Luncheon at the exclusive Stirling Club.

Among those attending were actress Kerry Washington, a George Washington graduate; R&B singer Mya, who hails from Prince George’s County; BET President Debra Lee; and Alonzo Mourning’s wife, Tracy, who attended Howard University.

The lunch honored the work of the NBA Wives Association’s Behind the Bench organization, which supports charitable work in the NBA’s 30 cities.

Rep. Shelley Berkley, D-Nev., presented a Certificate of Congressional Recognition to Charisse Jordan, wife of Wizards (and, over the weekend, Eastern Conference) coach Eddie Jordan.

“You notice it is not framed,” quipped Berkley. “The federal government is running a deficit.”

Pinups stand up

Don’t listen to the Bush administration, the Pentagon or the Department of Homeland Security. Yeas & Nays is first to bring you breaking news of who “America’s Top Terrorists” really are: pinup girls.

Yes, in the May issue of Hustler magazine, Shane and Sia Barbi (aka the former Playboy playmates commonly referred to as the “Barbi Twins”) pen an article on their pet cause — pet cruelty — under the headline: “America’s Top Terrorists: The Barbi Twins!” The blond sisters take the FBI to task for recently declaring certain animal rights activists “domestic terrorists.”

“Have you ever heard of anything so absurd?!” the two ask.

Speakeasy

“Sometimes I wish Congress had turndown service; we have a hard time turning down any chance to spend money. We ought to be [mini-] barred from funding pork projects like this.”

– Rep. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., on a $96,000 earmark for the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, Fla.
