Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said Harry Coumnas (KOOM'-nahs), of Flushing, was awaiting arraignment Tuesday on charges including attempted grand larceny and criminal possession of a forged instrument. His attorney's name was not yet on record.
The owners of the foreclosed home had filed for the sale proceeds in civil court in December, 2008.
Brown says Coumnas hired an attorney to challenge the victims for the proceeds in February, 2009. His attorney filed court papers bearing the couple's forged signatures that said the homeowners had assigned most of the house sale proceeds to Coumnas.
