My wife, two daughters and one of my granddaughters said that the shootings and arsons are coming up from the streets of D.C. to Gaithersburg and Germantown and proof of that is at one place for example, the Forest Oak Towers, Lakeforest Mall, Forest Walk and Streamside apartments recently. My wife said this evening when I got home from work that "this October, our family are moving. I want to get out of the general area. We're moving down south somewhere or out west somewhere. You hear me?" and I said, "You have a point. As soon as we get the money to move, we will find a nice big townhouse in southern Virginia or out in California". Some of the law enforcement said recently that "the elderly and children are being victims of crime as well as others" and the police seem to be short staffed according to one of our detectives working for the 6th sattelite district precinct over on Rt. 355 adjacent to the Salvation Army store and the Flaming Pit restaurant.

Below the article in Article History it states that 27 days ago "Fatal beating makes 57th homicide of year" That means in 27 days there were 58 additional homicides. That would mean more in 27 days than in 7 months. As a resident, I don't think so! Either there's a print error so someone didn't check their facts

Policing is not rocket science as you can see on cops if you make traffic stops for things such as talking on a cell phone or not using a turn signal often you find more such as drugs and guns, in addition to this is the police see 5-10 people standing on the corner they should stop and begin to ask question because loitering is against the law once citizens see the police taking these steps they will not be as fearful and will start to come forward with information, in addition to that traffic stops and tickets increase revenue for the city and should be used more frequently

I wonder if shotspoter was able to assist police as it relates to solving last nights shootings DC Police continously talk about the benefits of the shotspoter but the murder rate is steadly increasing and it seems like the DC government is just wasting money once again

Also what happened to stop and frisk it appears that this is no longer a part of the regular duties of MPD they just respond from crime scene to crime scene, for example I saw 20- 30 supicious subject standing on a corner an as opposed to getting out and asking what these guys were doing and telling them to disburse MPD just rode past, also Ray Charles can see the police coming from a block away with the strobe lights blinking and begin to run and hide, why is this still being done this is not effective policing

The MPD is in complete dissary the police are stating that the answer is more police officers with high powered guns but the streets are supposed to be safe Mayor Fenty and Mr. Peter Nickles did not think that the city was dangerous enough for us ordinary citizens to own guns as part of our constitutional right the DC police can protect themselves (by getting high powered rifles but ordinary citizens can't. Also some of the shootings in the past two weeks such as the one on North Captiol St and the shooting on Lincoln Road the police were in the area and knew the area was "volatile" but could not stop the shootings and blame it on the citizens stating "citizens don't cooperate with police" and who would considering some of the officers are have ties with felons. It is proven that they release confidential information and are also rude and verbally abusive. Also what happened to the old fashioned traffic stops of moving vehicles considering most shooting happen from moving vehicles

Also the letter from Cathy Lanier states that "not only are we able to predict crime but" if the MPD was able to predict crime and was doing such a good job at it then there would not be any shootings, stabbing, or robberies or any crime for that matter because DC police were able to predict it and were already on the scene before it happens that statement she made has to be one of the dumbest things I have ever heard

I have known darin for a long time, since the age of 7, he was a funy individual, he always had a smile on his face amd laughed at any and everything, I just saw him not to long ago walking down 6th street in that upright walk he use to have, and anybody that knows darin , knows his walk, so you can tell exactly who he is if your walkin behind him. Darrin, youll be missed by a graet number of people, I just hope that you'll be remembered for who you were and the good times you had while you were here, I pray that they find the people who robbed you of your life, your pride,your manhood and most of all you. its crazy but even though you stopped going to the meetings, i wonder if youll be in the new order, this question will always be in my mind, but as they say D, your in a better place, no more suffering anymore from anything, you finally have piece of mind. I knew Darren personally (Went to high school with him, his bro, and Mr. Miller). He will be sorely missed. Looking back to those days he was the jokester and always had a smile on his face. He never bothered anyone or looked for trouble. The good ones leave us way too early. My prayers go out to his family. R.I.P brother we love ya.

You can point to the colleges, US News & World Report w/their arbitrary college rankings, the schools that offer the AP courses, the parents, and the peers. This college prep thing is a pressure-cooker. The numbers applying to the colleges is staggering. The kids are now aiming for a 5.0 instead of a 4.0 (APs give you more points). If the schools didn't buy into this hopeless cycle, kids could have normal childhoods with less stress. Let them take college courses in college. Schools could limit APs so that nobody could take too many.

What is as disappointing as the content itself is the state in which I found my most recent edition of The Examiner. Splattered across the page of The Examiner was the word "Bludgeoned!", which made me cringe instantly. I would expect this kind of inconsideration from a tabloid, but not from what I believed to be a respectable news source. Imagine the state of mind that poor woman's family is in, and I'd appreciate it if the so called journalists who made the choice to use such a harsh word would place themselves in the shoes of her family. Sure, the purpose was served. More people picked up your paper and you made a bit more money. But at what expense? At the cost of the family's emotional turmoil and heartache? I suggest next time, established writers, that you act admirably and choose your words a bit more wisely. I am nearly positive if such a tragedy resulted on your behalf you would be outraged by that headline. That young boy committed a horrible crime, and so has The Examine

this is terrible, the youth of today have no respect for authority, if they will do this to their own parents, what chance does a joe blow on the street have with them?? I don't believe it's about family up bringing, it's to me these Damn violent games and movies and t.v. that we all are exposed to!!! This world is becoming like ancient Rome they flocked to the spectacle of the arena to see bloody conflict and death!! Stop all the violent activity that is directed to the youth, go back to the ways families were in the 50's without the expressed violence, and things were slower and more family oriented, STOP THIS NEEDLESS WASTE OF LIFE PEOPLE!!!

What is this city coming to? The city needs to step up efforts to prevent this type of youth violence. It happens in school and at home in families to. Sad story. There needs to be more youth counseling programs and better funding of schools so students have someone to turn to.

Society, peers, pressure, music, entertainment industry, and last but not least home life; what's to blame? Where did a good ol' fashioned sit down discussion go? Out the window with the planned parenting and controlled drug use theories of these children. Capital punishment, or brighter parents, I can tell you one of those is not coming soon.

So the people are "immigrants" which of course means "illegal immigrants" and since we're talking about El Salvador, this is very likely the work of MS-13 which has a stronghold in Northern Virginia. If only "the news" did better job of providing details and information. Innocent people like Paul Zeller are being killed as a result of mass illegal immigration of violent gangs! Wake up! In order for the "people" to get a grip on whats happening in Balt, They'd have to start from the top. City officials, police the community. The whole system is corrupt. No wonder the streets are so chaotic. Adding more police, especially baltimores questionable officers, my just fuel the flames. The U.S. government should intervene. Baltimore City has 52% of it's police force on patrol. How does that measure up with cities of comparable population and police forces? If this deployment was part of a "comprehensive stratefy", it might make sense. Because there are simply too many specialized units. A review should be conducted to determine the effectivemness of these specializedHow effective are these specilized units? What happened en Commissioner Hamm assumed command of the police force, he used the pharse "best practices"?. All of the previous Commissioners developed "strategic plans". These were road maps so that everyone knew where the department was headed. Baltimore needs 21st century leadership at every department. The cronyism and favotitism has ruined one of the nations most important cities. No more of this cops-cops leadership mentality. This city keeps digging the hole deeper and deeper. Baltimore needs a police commander who is a manager-not a police supervisor in a manager's position.

Bravo for Mayor Dixon. Finally we get acountability for the work they are supposed to be doing. Many of these "detectives" are good people, but quite a few spend their days and nights playing around when they should be giving us a fair shake for their paycheck.

Let's face it, we need to bring our troops back from Iraq and on to the streets of Baltimore to stop the killings caused by drug dealers and gangs! Adding a few more homicide detectives walking the beat, is like trying to put a house on fire out, with just a bucket of water.
