The leaves and day’s activities and entertainment, including a performance from local band KB Drive, are meant to encourage people to experience the city’s park and artistic expression. Local vendors and organizations such as Chipotle, Charm City Craft Mafia, TreeBaltimore, Tilt Studio Foundation and Baltimore’s Recycle! will be at the park, where visitors can buy one-of-a-kind bags made from the hundreds of banners that were on display throughout the city and designed by the local art community.
Today plein air painters and interactive public arts projects will flood downtown Frederick’s streets for “First Saturday.”
Beginning at 3 p.m., ten area painters will descend on the streets to paint scenes within designated blocks on Market and Patrick Streets, and Everedy Square/Shab Row. At 7 p.m. all of the paintings will move to the Cultural Arts Center at 15 N. Market Street for an exhibit and sale from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.
During the day, visitors can help assemble or deconstruct pieces to be included in a mosaic, paint a baseball for the Art’s A Ball! Public Art Project and contribute to the giant Community Puzzle next to La Paz. Lastly, local sculptor Sarah Hempel Irani will create a sculpture using a live model from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the corner of North Market and West Patrick.
