WASHINGTON (Map, News) - Still thinking about one more burger or hot dog on the grill before you hit the road? With the Memorial Day holiday weekend winding down, it’s now time to head home — or maybe you never left home in the first place with gas prices soaring the way they are.
Regardless, when beachgoers get to the Bay Bridge, they will find a nice present waiting for them — the redecking effort on the westbound span is taking the rest of the summer off.
The Maryland Transportation Authority announced the plan last week and says most of the metal plates that have lined parts of the span should be gone by now.
But you didn’t think you would get off that easy, did you? The Maryland State Highway Administration has some other work scheduled on the westbound span this week you should know about.
Here it is:
One lane will be closed between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday.
The span will be completely closed from 10 p.m. Tuesday until 5 a.m. Wednesday and during the same hours from Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Two-way traffic will run on the eastbound span.
The span will also close from 11 p.m. Saturday until 7 a.m. Sunday. Again, two-way traffic will run on the eastbound span.
All of this work has to do with the renovation of the Sandy Point overpass.
Remember, the posted speed limit on the westbound span is 45 miles per hour, and it is being enforced.
MEMORIAL DAY TRAVEL TIP:
If you do have to cross the Bay Bridge today, the Maryland Transportation Authority says the best time to do so is before 11 this morning or after 10 tonight.
More than 335,000 vehicles were expected to use the Bay Bridge this weekend, a 3 percent increase over last year.

And what about exit 160 southbound on I-95?? A huge bottleneck battling the afternoon sun, a Route 1 so0uthbound exit ramp and an exit 160 off ramp from Rt. 123 to southbound I-95. It all happens too quickly. I say, build a second level!!!!!! And, while you are at it, close the truck scales during rush hour. These big guys really mess it up as they merge onto I-95 again. Not their fault. Blame VDOT for such a mess!

How can I take a columnist seriously who can't tell the difference between "brake" and "break"? Can I have Mr. Eldridge back, please?

Hmmmm looks like it's going to be time to just stay home. This is a crock of you know what, maybe we as drivers all need to go to DC just like the truckers. This is just the beggining hold onto your wallet. Lucky for me i just bought a hybrid car yes a prius i got 62mi to the gallon last week. So my advice the sooner we get off this oil crap the better off we will be so go get yourself a hybrid and do something about it. Instead of just boo hooing over prices. Happy miling to ya.
