Baltimore County judge suspended for comments

BALTIMORE (Map, News) - A Baltimore County judge was suspended without pay for 30 days Tuesday for making “inappropriate” comments in court, including calling one man a “crackhead” and another an “ass.”

Baltimore County District Judge Bruce Lamdin was disciplined by the Maryland Court of Appeals, which wrote in a 26-page opinion that “neither a reprimand nor removal from office are warranted.”

Neither Lamdin nor his attorney, Alvin Frederick, returned phone calls Tuesday asking for comment on the ruling by Maryland’s highest court.

According to the Court of Appeals opinion, Lamdin also insulted judges on Baltimore County’s Circuit Court — implying they’re lazy.

“They’re all on their way to have cocktails or something up there at the Circuit Court,” he said.

Lamdin also derided law enforcement in Baltimore City, implying it’s soft on crime.

“When you get down there, you can pray a jury trial and you’re guaranteed to have it dismissed when you go up to the Circuit Court,” he said of the city court system.

In December, Frederick told the state’s highest court that Lamdin was remorseful.

“He’s embarrassed and ashamed of his actions,” Frederick said.

Frederick said the judge has improved his behavior and vowed not to insult the citizens who appear before him or other members of the judiciary. He’s also meeting with several more experienced judges for guidance, Lamdin’s attorney said.

Lamdin, a former defense attorney and a judge since 2002, was trying to help those people who appeared before him by speaking bluntly, Frederick said.

He was trying to talk to them “in a way they could understand,” Frederick said.

Talk about poetic justice, here's my chance to get my say, of which my lawyer and I were essentialy denied by Lamdin and his Kangaroo court in Towson. It comes as no suprise that this Clown has been investigated, found guilty of and suspended for misconduct, albeit not permanantly.About three years ago i had the misfortune of being falsely accused with allegations of stalking by a vengeful ex-girlfriend.As a result of this, i had to appear in front of the "Oh-so-Nice" Mr.Lamdin.During the trial he(Lamdim)basically implied that i was every thing from a child molester to a terrorist. He was Nasty,Beligerant and Arrogant to my attorney and I.He Supported and allowed blatent purgery during testimony on the behalf of my ex.,etc.etc.Although i was found innocent it had costed me dearly, both financially and emotionally. To those of you who think MR.LAMDIN is cute and funny or clever and tough.I hope you or one of you family suffer the same cruddy treatment i recieved for no good reason whatsoever!

I think there a bunch of cry-babies... I think Judge Lamdin is right on the money! If he called a crack head a crack head and some jackass a jackass then so be it! He tells it the way it is! The truth is the truth!, and if somebody got there feelings hurt then so what, they got themselves into trouble in the first place! I think you people need to take a long, hard look in the mirror before you pass judgement on a man who has spent most his life serving the law!

the truth is the truth. if the judge gets in trouble for a $2.00 crackhead, the LORD only knows how brutally punished he will be for talking to rotten- stinking-nasty-killing-pimping-robbing-farting DRUG DEALERS. THE REAL BIG DADDY'S at the top of law enforcement do not touch the big dog drug dealers. nor do the courts stick it to them hard and very deep. maybe the government at the top is being BOUGHT. GOVERNMENT DRUG TESTING FOR PAROLE AND PROBATION IS A JOKE-99.9999% OF THE P&P DO NOT GO TO JAIL FOR DRUGS IN THEir SYSTEM. NOW IS THE TIME TO SEND THE MESSAGE DO NOT MESS WITH DOPE. WHATEVER HAPPEN TO THE "PADLOCK LAw it could save the landlords a lot pain and stress without losing their property.

Judge Lamdin sent my friend to jail for a week for urinating in public. Is that fair? And he also compared the story of him urinating to one where a guy got his head run over by a drunk driver. Oh, and what does drunk driving and urinating in public have in common? He generalizes and stereotypes people and blows things out of proportion... just a little bit. Urinating in Public: JAIL for 7 DAYS

Hurray for judge Bruce Lamdin-I wish the Maryland Court of Appeals was as hard on the "crackheads" and the "asses that rob, shoot and stab innocent people. I also agree that the law enforcement in Baltimore City is soft on crime. "Return judge Lamdin to the bench and give him his pay".

The only reason Judge Lamdin was disciplined was because his comments were TRUE. Had he said something completely off the wall, nothing would have come of this. The truth hurts and when the Court of Appeals feels pain, they lash out.

Judge Lamdin presided over a case in which my daughter and I had been attacked by several women. He was fair, firm and we need more judges like him. Enough with kissing the rear ends of the criminals, stop giving them a slap on the wrist. And, yes, talk to them in language they understand. What's wrong with that? Respect? Did they respect the people they attacked, stole from, etc? They are criminals, not little kids. Judge Lamdin should run for office. Perhaps then the crime rate in this state would go down.

It is imperative that some judges take the law into their own hands. They favor whoever while penalizing severly others. Most of the time they profanely talk to people who appear before as they were inferior them. These judges failed to realize, that we all humans and sinners. The Earth belongs to God, they have the chance to take lives, and freedom of those who respect themselves

Who cares? Why don't they make a big deal over city judges who remand violent felons back to the juvenile system, ie; Lynn Stewart.

The judge needs to stop the rejection. It will only lead to people not wanting to be around him. Its the law of cause and effect, He seemily rejects and dislikes them by not providing acceptance and compassion himself which causes the people to reject and dislike him. It is a cycle that the judge has created which he needs to stop by beginning to showing acceptace himself. This is a serious matter. The judge's opinon matters and by the judge giving it in the wrong way it is crushing the heart of the people that look to him......the judge needs to show compassion himself. The accectance needs to come directly from him or the people will seek it through another judge. The judge needs to take care of his own business and reach out to the people and stop sending the message that he doesn't care enough to be personally involved. He is hurting those who want compassion and acceptance directly from him. It is about quality time and not quantity of time. A kind word spoken directly fro

Just because someone acts like an ass does not give you the right to call them one. This is about a Judge out of control without any respect for himself, the bench, or those coming through his courtroom. I think this is the biggest issue in society today is the lack of respect we all have for each other.

It's a matter of decorum and judicial temperament. There must be some standards of conduct in the courtroom, and a judge of all people, should uphold them. Lamdin is not alone. There are numerous other judges is the city and counties whose behavior is completely reprehensible.

It's not Court TV. Liberal and/or conservative labels have nothing to do with it. Judges need to be professional and civilized on the bench and not wave their egos so much.... & I am a conservative by the way.

I'll be the first to admit that I am not fond of liberals (i.e. socialists) but what do liberals have to do with this? The judge sounds like an arrogant boob. In the article, his attorney even admitted as much about his behavior. Just like most of us, I'm sure he comes across many knuckleheads during the performance of his duties but is it too much to ask that he behave himself in a professional manner? He is a judge in charge of a courtroom and not a guest on the Jerry Springer Show.

Here we go again, another good qualified judge being attacked by the liberals for his honesty and outspokenness--in other words for his calling "A spade a spade and a rose a rose." When you are dealing with these donkey asses who have little or no intelligence, you have to come down to their level occasionally in order that they understand what you're saying or ordering them to do. To be a member of the judiciary today, you need the patience and wisdom of Solomon in dealing with the swine of the earth.
