    BALTIMORE (Map, News) - The scene was so bad Hampden resident Joyce King thought she was witnessing a murder in progress.

    “Stop! Get off of her! You’re going to kill that girl!” King shouted at middle schoolers she saw beating a 26-year-old woman in a gutter near a Baltimore City bus.

    King’s testimony came Friday during the fourth day of trial in the assault case against five Robert Poole Middle School students charged with beating Sarah Kreager, 26, Troy Ennis, 30, and the No. 27 bus driver as more than 40 students rode home from school Dec. 4.

    Around 3 p.m. that day, King testified she was at her home in the 3200 block Chestnut Avenue when she heard “a loud noise” as a Maryland Transit Administration bus “slammed into the curb.”

    “I saw the back doors on the bus fly open and a girl fly out and a whole bus of kids come behind her,” she said. “The girl went down on the ground and as she tried to get back up they all started kicking and punching her.”

    King said about 15 to 20 students followed Kreager off the bus.

    “This happened all at once,” she said. “Everyone was doing it all. I didn’t see anyone holding back.”

    As King tried to get the students to stop the assault, she noticed the bus was “violently rocking,” King testified.

    She ordered her daughter: “Go call the police and tell them there’s a riot on the bus!”

    After King confronted the kids, they ran off and the woman turned her attention to Kreager, she said.

    “Her eye, it just looked like it has exploded,” King testified, holding her hand in front of her face. “She had a big eye out to here. ... It was really, really bad.”

    Of the nine students initially charged in the beating, prosecutors have dropped three of their cases, but secured one conviction.

    One 14-year-old girl pleaded “involved” — the juvenile equivalent to guilty — to misdemeanor assault after admitting to striking Kreager one time.

    The trial resumes Monday.

    i unfortunately had to spend a short period of time in a jail for traffic nonsense and i'll never forget this black woman in there about 40 years of age with the mental capability of maybe an 8 year old who told me all about the money laundering she'd done, robberies (she was in for probation violation), how here father would shoot at her and her siblings with a pellet gun for fun that was set up in the den, how she was raped by an uncle...etc...i could not believe her life. and she actually had a sense of humor about it but was totally bonkers and didn't seem to realize it. just nutso. and she had 5 kids all with relatives living off the welfare system. do not get what is wrong with the black community. two of her kids were in jail in the maximum security area (she and i were in minimum security)for grand larceny. i mean, her father sounded like a sociopath the way she described him and she knew he was crazy but also thought him funny. i think we cannot even being to get their live

The beat that the marching band marches to is THE LEAST of their differences and Wright would have been better to point to those African Americans who know that speaking gramatically correct English is speaking "business" English, not White European English instead of celebrating their differences and asserting that they are not a disability. To be unable to converse clearly with others globally who speak in standard English that is the official language of the U.N. is to be disabled in the marketplace, and destined to be economically deprived. For him to then talk about brain differences is a VERY SLIPPERY SLOPE. Educated Black professionals had better get a handle on this guy FAST. Obama won't. As predicted, Wright has signed a book deal. Obama has more on his plate than he knows I'm afraid.

    This was a classic example of mob mentality and could have ended tragically. As to Rev. Wright's sppech where he mentioned the difference in brain function between blacks and whites. I listened to the entire speech-TWICE- and he made several interesting points in regard to music, cadence, religious service differences. His mocking interpretations of northeastern speech vs.southwestern speech-using whites as examples of people who speak differently but aren't considered deficient as opposed to black gramatically incorrect speech may have worked against rather than for him. Left him with too many ugly sound bites yet again and of course the mocking black speech would have been intolerable had a white rev. done this. The musical/clapping differences though interesting completely missed the most important point in his comparison of Mi. State and U. of Mi. marching bands vs. Grambling and Texas A&M. Again any reporter with a computer can pull up the student profiles and, GPAs. (above)

    I hope Ms Kreager can now get on with her life. I hope Nakita McDaniels gets the physciatric help she so desperately needs, and is able to salvage her life as well. I my greatist hope, is that the Black community will finally look inward, recoginize their is a real problem with black youth, and begin to honestly deal with the problem. The time for blaming other races, or some notion of an oppressive government is long gone.     I was forced to grow up and attend school in an African American neighborhood as a white kid. While I cannot accuse all of them of acting like animals, by and large that would be an accurate assessment of a majority of their individual behavior. Because of intergration, I was forced to fight my way through school and was lucky to receive any education - at all. Learing in the classroom was almost an impossibility, as there is very little regard for order in African American culture, as well as value for education. Most African Americans seem to be unable to escape a barbaric tribal mindset that Americans of European descent have left behind. Unlike the liberal elite in this country, my experiences and experiences like this poor women have left me with the conclusion that a racialy divided society is not only desirable, but the only logical conclusion. Unless African American culture evolves, they will continue to fill our prisons and spread collective misery in our country.

These kids have gotten away with so much and it has sent the wrong message in Baltimore.     I have lived in other urban areas, but the black people in Baltimore (children, parents, all of them - and yes, I am black), are from some other realm! I hope that this incident doesn't put a mark on all black children, or people. I know that this type of thing makes it very difficult to be able to trust, but please know, there are many of us - and our children - children that have involved families - that have a conscious, morals, and respect for the law and our fellow "humans". I understand when she said that there are 20 other people out there that know her face, it is scary. But I hope you know this isn't a black white thing, to me, it is a "civilized vs. uncivilized" thing. I can't fathom what those people did, the hatred and anger to a stranger. I grew up poor, but it didn't make me angry at people who had no responsibility in how my life was being lived. On the contrary, I used that anger to make sure that I wouldn't be caught in the same place as my parents.

    This might have been what's called a defining moment in Sarah Kreager's life. She had SO many personal problems prior to the attack and this might have been the wake up call that made it clear to her that life is short and unpredictable. Time to turn her life around and focus on herself and her children and making a better, stable life for them as a family. Maybe time to find an alternate means of transportation too..........

    The Judge wants to know what went wrong to cause this - He should look in the mirror. These are unbelievably light sentences for all concerned. Nakita M has 6 documented cases of what appears to be aggravated assault - one involving a stabbing; and now a near-homicidal beating. But she gets detention in juvie. She, if not the others, should have gone into the adult system, where she should have been all along. Tell me someone who has 6 priors who doesn't know the adult rules, here? Age has little to do with it; knowledge does. As for the others - they learned a valuable lesson, too: that if your skin is black and you live in Baltimore, the penalties are minimal.

    At the very same time this "sentence" was being handed down, a group of wilding thugs was boarding the metro at the Johns Hopkins station. I took video with my cell phone that shows them jumping up and down, cursing and running up and down the length of the car. They tried to intimidate me after they realized I was recording their behavior, but quickly retreated after I let them know that I was no Sarah Kreager, and would have no problem handing out my own justice. It's time we all take back our city from this scourge.

Maybe she can be rehabilitated. maybe not but I think the judge was right that this girl was steadily working her way toward homicide. The remaining members who will get probation will need to be supervised and counseled carefully. David Young is right.What has gone so wrong? To the thuglets who escaped prosecution and now want to file suit, I say bring it on baby and let the light shine on what you've been up to at home, in the "community" and in your school records. Better think twice before opening that door to the media and public scrutiny.

    Dear all, My suggestion was for those interested in this issue is to write not only to the MTA, but to the City Council and to your local representatives as well. I agree that the issue is a larger one about the perpetration of hate crimes. At the same time, when local politicians hear enough complaints they are more likely to respond. If everyone puts just a few minutes of energy into writing letters of complaint, the issue is less likely to be pushed under the rug.

    Of course thats not a bad idea, and certainly wont do any harm. But this thing is far beyond the MTA. Hate Crime laws need to apply to minorities, as they do to everybody else. Can you imagine if the racial roles were reversed in this case, and none of the perpetrators were charged with a "Hate Crime" ? I cant even imagine it. I want to know why this case isnt on Oprah. Why isnt there the same public outcry which would undoubtedly be the case if the racial roles were reversed ?

    I have a proposition for all of the intelligent and fair-minded people following this case. What if we mobilized and each wrote a letter to our representatives, city council, and the MTA about the state of public transportation in Baltimore and how current and potential MTA riders do not feel safe given the violence occurring on buses (as this is not the first of such incidents in Baltimore)? When the MTA and others feel that their bottom line might actually be affected by violence against citizens, that is when you will see changes in procedure (i.e., having working cameras on buses and stiff penalities for assaults on buses)happen. If the MTA sees this as something that just affects a person here and there and not the public at large, they won't make sweeping changes. If 100 citizens complained to the MTA and the city council, we might just see something happen. Will you be part of the 100? Let's do it! Write back and let's coordinate this effort. Let's shoot for 100 complaints.

    Is anyone interested in the sentencing in this case? I cannot find a single mention of it anywhere on the internet. Was the sentencing postponed? Or do we not care about what happens to passengers on public transportation in this country? You'd think there would at least be mention that the case was postponed and why.

    As youths, we all do stupid things. You may have smoked a bong or two. You may have slept around. You may even have vandalized a car, or smashed a window. But how many of you can add participation in a violent gang-beating of innocent people, unprovoked - to your list of youthful indescretions ? Not many, I presume. That's because these arent "youthful indescretions", but rather violent criminal acts, by which the perpetrators have served notice on society, that they are unfit to live among the civilized population. They have yelled it loud and clear, "We are not fit to live among civilized people. We have violent tendencies, which do not discriminate on the basis of provocation. We have no remorse, and do not care if our victims may be permanently damaged, physically, or emotionally. We owe no apologies to anybody." That's what these criminals are saying to all of us who live in civilized society...are we listening ?

    It is sad when middle school age children loose control. They are not unhappy nor do they fear and respect much. The parents or parent must teach them at a early age that being human can be expressed in ways that does not involve attacking someone in such a way. A mind that works in such a way has no right to be out in public. One can only hope and pray that these parents or parent feels that they care enough for their children to spend time with them and help them develop civilized ways of thinking.
