More than 150,000 flowers from nurseries, hybrid cultivators and growers located around the Bay and around the world are on view at the San Francisco Orchid Society’s 56th annual exposition, which opens Friday after a gala preview event Thursday evening. “Orchids Gone Wild” is the theme of the show, which also features tours and demonstrations.

Among the more notable displays are sculptor Clark Sorensen’s one-of-a-kind high-fire porcelain urinals, which are crafted in the shape of flowers and shells.

The Pacific Orchid Exposition’s hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. The gala runs from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Thursday. All activities are in the Festival Pavilion, Fort Mason Center, Buchanan Street and Marina Boulevard, San Francisco.
