OAKLAND (Map, News) - Amtrak trains are running on time again after a person was hit and killed while crossing tracks this afternoon in San Leandro, according to officials.
The person was struck at about 12:30 p.m. near Williams Street about 8 miles south of the Oakland Amtrak station, spokeswoman Vernae Graham said.
An Alameda County coroner was summoned to the scene and has retrieved a body, a coroner's official said.
Train No. 535 departed from Sacramento to San Jose at about 10:10 a.m., according to Graham.
Neither the train's 22 passengers nor the crew was injured, she said.
The speed limit for Amtrak trains in the area is 79 mph, but officials do not know how fast No. 535 was traveling.
The incident temporarily halted service for No. 535 and two other trains, Graham said. Trains were moving again at 2:53 p.m.
Some trains are back on schedule and others will be caught up shortly, Graham said.

I too was a friend of Greg Anstett's and the woman who robbed him of his life and kept on driving probably will not be punished. She comes from a wealthy family and will easily be able to buy herself what she feels is justice. And that leaves us holding the bag - the body bag.

my Best friend Greg Anstett was carelessly killed by a hit and run driver. He was robbed of many more years of life. I hope the wonan that killed him doesn't get behind the wheel of a car for many years. A few years of community service will do her good.

Rule of survival: always let the MUNI bus go first at a street intersection. When it comes to staying intact after impact, the bus wins hands down.

It's unfortunate that train service has to be disrupted and people have to be delayed because some moron walks in front of a train.
