HAGERSTOWN, Md. (Map, News) - As snow began to envelop the region, local schools scrambled to announce cancellations of evening activities on Wednesday. Fairfax County Public Schools announced on their web site that they had canceled all school activities for Wednesday evening.

Fluffy snow was falling across the region with 2 inches already on the ground in Cumberland. The National Weather Service predicts accumulations across most of the state, ranging from an inch in central Maryland to as much as 7 inches on the Garrett County ridge tops.

State police report numerous traffic accidents in Frederick, Washington and Allegany counties due to slippery roads. None of those accidents are considered serious although some motorists have sustained minor personal injuries.

I have always been in absolute wonder at the incapacity and inability of the DC area to accomodate "snow flurries". Everyone panics. As a former new englander we wonder how the 'rest' of you think you will deal with terrorist attacks when you are completely a wuss when it comes to minute droplets of frozen minute particles of H20. What would happen if a terrorist or liberal fanatic threw a whole glass of water at you? Where is your courage! Do you think this is a real government holiday? Get ovah it! You can't play golf, mighty warrior, so you are essential at work! Get out there and git going, it's the American can-do attitude. I am a former new englander and I am going to work tomorrow - there will be no traffic and I can park wherevah I want. I am just going to plot and conspire how to get Your job while I'm sitting by your empty office/cubicle. Wussees!
