SAN FRANCISCO (Map, News) - A man arrested for allegedly attempting to set fire to Grace Cathedral in San Francisco Sunday night is also facing charges in Nevada for setting the Burning Man effigy ablaze, a San Francisco County Sheriff's officer said today.

Paul David Addis, 35, was arrested and booked in to San Francisco County jail on charges of attempted arson, possession of a device of arson, possession of a destructive device and attempted arson of a church, Officer Susan Fahey said. The San Francisco resident has been charged with allegedly setting the Burning Man effigy on fire before it was scheduled to be lit at the annual event held each Labor Day weekend.

Police began patrolling the area near Grace Cathedral after Addis' neighbor reportedly hear him say "the cathedral isn't going to be there anymore,'' said San Francisco police Officer Jim McGrath.

Addis was located on the California Street side of the cathedral around 11:40 p.m. in possession of a backpack loaded with fireworks, McGrath said. He also had other things that "led the officers to believe he might be up to something.''

Upon finding the fireworks, bomb squad officials were called to the scene to remove the explosives and the arson task force responded to investigate, according to McGrath.
