A technology expert said Wednesday that potentially years' worth of Mayor Ray Nagin's e-mails have been deleted.Christopher Reade, a partner in a tech firm who assisted the Louisiana Technology Council in efforts to recover data for the mayor's office, said the mailbox was removed between June 2008 and May 2009. He said 22 gigabytes of data vanished from a defunct server on May 5 - the day of a conference call with the city on the work the outside technology experts would do - but he did not know if the mailbox was among that data.

A man who was deported by Canada last year pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges he duped the Egyptian government into paying more than $7 million for a shipment of frozen chicken he never intended to deliver.Alexander Legault, 59, had moved from Louisiana to Canada before a grand jury in New Orleans indicted him on fraud charges in 1986. Legault, who also has been charged with participating in scams in Texas and Florida, was ordered deported by Canada in 2002 but remained a fugitive until his arrest last year.

An Arizona man who likes several drinks with his lunch has been arrested three times in the past week for refusing to pay at restaurants where he ate. Jefferson Parish sheriff's records show that a 36-year-old man was booked with defrauding an innkeeper after he ate at three restaurants, then laughed when asked to pay his bill.The man allegedly ran up bills ranging from $23 to $31 - including four beers with a lunch plate at one restaurant and four margaritas with a cheeseburger at another - then said he was homeless and couldn't pay.
