Colorado Springs police and the State Patrol have stepped up enforcement against drunken drivers during the holiday weekend.Police say they cited 17 people for driving under the influence from Friday night into early Saturday. Police say the people cited were among the more than 2,780 drivers stopped at a checkpoint on South Powers Boulevard in Colorado Springs.

The bark beetle infestation that has spread to almost 2 million acres of trees in Colorado is making it difficult for people hoping to camp during the Fourth of July weekend.Several campsites in Summit County are closed as workers remove infested trees over fears that they could fall. The U.S. Forest Service says they hope to have all but one of the campgrounds in Summit County open in the next few weeks.
