Even the best zombie flick will portray a heap of zeds scattering from a flame like cats from a sqirtgun, but this is a misconception. A zombie no more fears fire than a boulder fears being hit with a stuffed animal. This is no mere instance of fearlessness either. Plainly, a revenant does not possess the ability to fear anything; it is a decomposing husk, which is manipulated by a secondary force (virus, magic, aliens). The beast remains singular in purpose regardless of situation and intervention. And the ghoul appetite can only be satiated by flesh or re-death.
That being said, fire is still a wonderful apocalyptic tool… when used correctly. Fire can cauterize wounds, create instant barriers, cook food, generate power, etc., but using fire effectively against the dead takes some consideration. Yes, an enveloping flame will kill a zombie, but only after it has shambled about creating a periphery of burning carnage. One cannot simply bombard a crowd of unyielding, highly combustible monsters with a homemade flamethrower and hope for the best; the Zombiegeddon will not accommodate the luxury of such stupidity. Fire is only be used in a researched manner and in wide-open, non-flammable surroundings. It should be employed primarily in mop-up operations and not necessarily used as a weapon. This includes the incineration of any undead and human remains to stay the health risks of decomposition.
Remember that no matter what movies might have you believe, zombies do not fear fire, period. If you find yourself descended upon by walking corpses, don’t start up the grill and break out the wieners, they will kill you. (the zombies I mean, not the wieners)

Haven't you seen 'Night of the Living Dead'? Zombies fear fire, as much as fire blinds morlocks. And since zombies aren't real, movies are a good source of information, especially since the original version of 'Night of the Living Dead' is the movie that started it all.
