March of the Zombies II: a killer fashion show

Saturday night, the second annual March of the Zombies fashion show brought together beauty and brains at Bender's Tavern in downtown Denver.

The fashion show, organized by designer and model Summer Jackson, featured designs by Summer Jackson LLC, Jackson Ink, Broken, BLK MTL/A.D.D., Whorebath Clothing, and Studio Yoshida.
The designers' fashions were complimented by zombie effects makeup, turning the models into the ghastly undead.

Before the fashion lit up the runway, spectators browsed the zombie-themed work of local artists, including author Brian Kaufman, whose apocalyptic zombie novel Dead Beyond the Fence was published by Dark Silo Press in February. Impressive visual art by Tague Airbrushing and Hooligan Kustoms perfectly complemented the ghoulish good looks of the models.

Setting the mood for the fashion show were local bands With Arms Raised, MF KAAOS, and Throwaway Sunshine. There was a discount at the door for guests dressed in zombie finery, so the crowd was thick with the undead.

But none were quite as gruesomely gorgeous as the models. The fashions were edgy, yet elegant, and the models embraced their bloody makeup by stumbling zombie-style on stiff limbs down the runway. Some glared at the audience with murderous hunger, or bared their teeth and clawed at the cameras. Others danced down the runway to the beat of the DJ and drummer. The zombie makeup --realistic bloody wounds, bones showing under peeled-back flesh, full-facial bruising-- was the perfect contrast to the delicate dresses and intricate screen prints of the designers.

The March of the Zombies II was held in honor of Summer Jackson's husband Willy's birthday. At the end of the show, the models walked down the runway carrying cupcakes with lit candles in them. I can't think of a better way to celebrate a birthday than gorgeous, bloody zombies wearing original fashions.

    i think you meant "complemented."

but you're quite right: the vendors were splendid. pity there aren't any crowd shots - many of them were as well-presented as the models.

Oh just you wait. Didn't I say "check back for more"? More coverage (and a few crowd shots) to come. And thanks for the spellcheck! Always appreciated.
