The Toronto International Film Festival is one of the largest film festivals in the world. Starting on September 9, the eleven day film festival shows a variety of blockbuster and independent films from all over the world. Many celebrities, including Robert De Niro and Ben Affleck, are attending this festival and/or promoting their new films.

Young travelers who want to live the film festival experience can order tickets ahead of time by going to the Toronto International Film Festival website. Travelers who are a little more spontaneous can stand in line at least a half hour in advance and attempt to purchase rush tickets. These tickets go on sale right before the film begins and they require cash payments.

Not sure which films to see? Pick up an issue of NOW Magazine or Eye Weekly. These publications contain a variety of reviews, special picks, and additional information about the films currently playing at the Toronto International Film Festival. Young travelers can also search online for film reviews and recommendations from novice and expert film critics.

The film festival has more to offer than just movies. Celebrity sightings—especially at night—are common around the theaters, in the Yorkville District, and even throughout Toronto. There are also numerous clubs and pubs throughout the city for young travelers who want to unwind after a long day of watching films and exploring Canada’s largest city. While there are some clubs which allow casual dress, young travelers are recommended to wear semi-formal outfits—such as dress pants or a cocktail dress—and avoid wearing sneakers or hoodies. Some clubs do allow for nice designer jeans.

Young travelers who are not interested in seeing the films can enjoy the other sights and sounds of Toronto. Sports fanatics can catch a Toronto Blue Jays game or visit the Hockey Hall of Fame. Travelers searching for a cultural experience should explore the Royal Ontario Museum, Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art, or the Ontario Science Center. Nature lovers can spend the day exploring the scenery of Toronto Island. The CN Tower is also a very popular sight to see during the day and night.

The Toronto International Film Festival is one of the most exciting times for young travelers to visit the largest city in Canada. Even if some young travelers do not want to explore the glitz and glimmer of the festival, there is still plenty of exciting things to do in Toronto.
