Continue learning after college
One of the best times for students to travel is during college. However, there are many students who have not taken the opportunity to travel and they are preparing to graduate. Is it too late for them to travel? Of course not! There are plenty of scholarships and fellowships available to help them explore the new world they are entering before facing a life of meetings and deadlines.
For example, there is a fellowship where graduating students can travel anywhere outside of the United States for an entire year in order to study any subject of interest. The Watson Fellowship gives qualified students $25,000 in funds so they can travel around the world and study any topic they choose ranging from the sport of cricket to the study of musical instruments within many nations. This program is available to graduating seniors, so for those individuals who want to postpone entering the workforce for an entire year and start exploring then they should consider applying for this fellowship.
Each year, thirty-two students are chosen to join the Rhodes Scholar program. These students are given the chance to study at the famous Oxford University in England for a couple of years. For students who are interested in studying within the United Kingdom, but not Oxford, then they should register for the Marshall Scholarship and study in one of the universities throughout the United Kingdom. Marshall Scholarship winners have the opportunity to study at one of around 168 institutions within the United Kingdom.
Students who are more interested in teaching or researching during their travels should consider entering a program that gives them the chance to teach overseas. Many students join programs such as Fulbright and the JET program in order to make a difference while traveling abroad. Programs such as JET allow individuals to travel abroad and teach students in non-English countries the English language. The Fulbright program offers a broader variety of activities and topics including research, teaching, and studying.
There are numerous opportunities for students to travel or study abroad after graduation. Many of these scholarships and fellowships are sponsored by individual schools, so students should ask their study abroad advisors and academic offices for more information on these and other programs. Another resource for researching scholarships that are more open to the graduating public is Fast Web. However, students who are interested in traveling after graduating should start applying now and meeting all deadlines to gain a better chance at winning one of these or other opportunities for travel.
