Debate is McCain's last chance

With the general election looming ahead, it seems McCain has quite the uphill battle ahead of him. He is facing an average 7.5 point deficit in the polls with mere weeks left in the campaign. But it isn't just the national polls. Electoral predictions, based on state by state polls, also show McCain far behind, and seemingly losing the battle in battleground states.

McCain last shot at Obama will come at tonight's debate at Hofstra University. McCain needs to go after Obama hard and fast, with likely more than a few below-the-belt shots. Voters always say they disapprove, yet it is these shots that tend to push them away from a candidate if aimed properly. On top of this, McCain needs a stellar gaffe-free performance (no more "that one" comments) and needs to try and corner Obama into making a ridiculous/nonsensical statement or force him into some other gaffe. McCain needs to appear aggressive without making it seem like that it is his anger that is in control. Anything else will just be a win for Obama, allowing for his lead in the polls to continue to skyrocket as McCain's campaign tumbles, unless there is some huge game changer tonight or a late October surprise in the coming weeks.

In short, McCain has a tall order in front of him. He has a lot of hoops to try and jump through to get his campaign back on track. My experience is somewhere along the way McCain won't stick the landing, but it might just well cost him the election.

Inclined to agree-although it isnt the debate that will cost McCain the election. Historically, debates dont make that much difference.

Again, an ignorant liberal punk spewing garbage. Just wait until November, you'll eat your words.

    Bob,

It is really nice to know you can actually read. Now, my question is, do you have anything of value to contribute, or are you just going to name call? Maybe you could explain WHY you disagree with the author's point of view. Just because you dont like Obama doesnt mean he doesnt have a very real shot at the presidency...

Alright, whore, I'll get to it : Obama is a hack, and the more you support this liberal pig, the less you know about politics. It's a travesty some moron is getting into office because of his "charisma" and "change." You just take his word for it that there will be change, without any real solutions. It's time for you sheep to start challenging governement to get what you want.

LOL..evidently youre just going to name call. What would be a real crime, Bob, is if youre allowed to procreate. Yeah, Bob, I bet you make your mom proud. :)

Funny, how you ignore the only real valid point i've made in my comments simply because of that name. Everyone is placing incredible faith in Obama without any real answers. It's the trust in government that got us in the hole we're in right now. Please, read past the second word.

Bob, if youre going to ATTEMPT to make a point, might I suggest you not preface it with "whore," or any other name for that matter. You lose any credibility you may have had, which was the point of my original post. The ease with which you name call, and particularly your casual use of the word whore, speaks volumes about you.

    Dan,

I am interested to hear what you thought of the debate. To me, nothing changed. Neither candidate directly answered the questions they were asked; they simply used the queestions as a starting point to talk about hteir own agenda. Nothing new was truly learned. Looking forward to hearing your next comments.

Bob, Im sorry, did you HAVE a point? Colorful language? Is that what you call it when you degrade women?Colorful? Do you have a mother, Bob? Sisters? Daughters?

Hello, when did my home life become the thing in question? Here, let me spell it out for you.

" Obama is a hack, and the more you support this liberal pig, the less you know about politics. It's a travesty some moron is getting into office because of his "charisma" and "change." You just take his word for it that there will be change, without any real solutions. It's time for you sheep to start challenging governement to get what you want. "

Or, to get to my most potent one:
"You just take his word for it that there will be change, without any real solutions. It's time for you sheep to start challenging governement to get what you want."

Now, if I may go on with what you want to focus on, clearly, instead of the issues: I'm not degrading women in general, just you. Sound good, chief?

  • Debbie 3 years ago

Bob, dear-YOU came out with WHORE. That word IS degrading to all women-and that you say it about ANY women, but in particular a woman you dont know...a woman who merely ASKED for your opinion on a blog...Bob, Bob, Bob...what arent you getting?

  • Bob 3 years ago

Debbie, dear-YOU wont drop the POINT. I merely said that to express my distaste with you. Lets not make this a question of epics. Either respond to my valid point or acknowledge your narrow mind. Debbie, Debbie, Debbie... are you high?

    Cynthia-

I agree, I don't think anything changed. McCain did amazing the first forty minutes or so, but then began heading downhill the last hour or so. Obama held his own and was able to combat many of the attacks effectively. However, myself and others were re-energized and excited to vote again after the debate. Myself and friends of mine had long chosen who we wanted to vote for, but after so long some of the excitement around it had been lost. It seems the debate has brought it back though, and it continues to grow as election day comes closer.

  • Debbie 3 years ago

Bob, youre right- I wont drop it when someone uses the term WHORE as casually as you do. I asked you to express your opinion...the POINT of a blog, yes? At which point you replied with OK WHORE...now BOB...WHAT was the point there? Just to show what youre made of? LOL good job! Bob, you have no POINT.

Here's my answer to all of this: proud to be a punk liberal. At lease I've got manners. And a vision for the future. Tell me, Bob, who should we pick for our leader? Because McCain and Bush have some striking similarities, and even you seem to admit that our current adminstration has caused more problems than they fixed. So why should we blindly put our faith in Republican leaders who would pretty much be a stand-in for Bush? It's time for a change. No more Bush, and to my mind Bush and McCain are too close for comfort. I seriously hope that the American people will realize that Bush and those like him simply aren't working, and they'll opt for the change.

  • Bob 3 years ago

All I got from there was: I'm ignorant to politics, bush is dumb so mccain is too lolol

The only hope for this country lies in Ron Paul.

  • Dina 3 years ago

Clearly you didn't bother to read my comment. What I said was, Bush didn't work, and McCain's policy is almost identical to Bush's, so why would we want to replace Bush with McCain? Seems to me like McCain is just giving the same old stuff from a different person.

Actually I'm not ignorant to politics. I watched the debates - did you?

  • Bob 3 years ago
    Report Abuse

I laughed out loud at that one. You consider the debates to MEAN something? Christ that's all just middle class appeals and dodging questions. You want real answers? Check their senate voting records, and any statements BEFORE they chose to run. Anything they say now is just an appeal to you sheep.

  • Dina 3 years ago
    Report Abuse

They do mean something, exactly because it appeals to the middle class. And the way they dodge the questions - that's important, too. You can learn as much about a person by listening to what he's not saying or doesn't want to say as you can by actually listening to his words.
What you mentioned is important, too. But the debates have their merits, and it's worth paying attention to them.
Again with the insults. You know next to nothing about me, and yet you claim that I am a sheep. And again, you seize upon one of my points yet entirely ignore the rest. Did you even bother to read the main body of my comment?

  • Bob 3 years ago
    Report Abuse

Your whole comment was the same babble you've been spewing, that McCain is the same as Bush. And that's a good one on middle class appeals. Saying what you want to hear DOES NOT mean something.

  • Debbie 3 years ago
    Report Abuse

Psst...Bob...Maybe you werent aware of this, but ALL politicians tell the people what they think they want to hear when they are trying to get elected. What I personally find disturbing, however, is that Obama is being treated like the second coming of Christ. BUT-I do believe that our current president is in large part directly responsible for that. He has messed up this country SO badly, that the majority of people are incredibly disillusioned, which makes them much more vulnerable to Obama's "charms." This country is in trouble, and along comes this charismatic man, promising to make it all better, and right all the wrongs over the past 8 yrs. People WANT that, and WANT to believe that, and many do. He is untested, and I believe, will create many more issues for us than we currently have-but he has been playing on our collective vulnerabilities, and seems to be doing quite well at it. I dont like either candidate, but think Obama will win the election. I hope Im wrong, but I believe 4 yrs from now, we will be in worse shape in many ways than we are right now.

  • Dina 3 years ago
    Report Abuse

I don't know about that, but something you're saying calls to mind a parallel to Hitler. Germany was disillusioned and he was charismatic, which made it so much easier for him to come to power.
I will say this - I'd take Obama over Hitler any day!

  • Debbie 3 years ago
    Report Abuse

There IS a parallel in terms of our vulnerability and his charisma. It is almost identical. I certainly dont think Obama will commit the atrocities that Hitler did, but I do believe he will create many problems for us-more than exist already. This is a case in which I will be more than happy to eat my words, because in the end, I want our country strong and our citizens successful and happy. Obama obviously has the masses behind him. Lets now see if he delivers.
