To the surprise of some conservative commentators, Jon Stewart, host of Comedy Central's news spoof program, The Daily Show, ran a segment on the ACORN video scandal on Tuesday night.
In the clip, Stewart praises James O'Keefe and Hannah Giles for exposing ACORN on hidden camera. But Stewart is also critical of the mainstream media that failed to pick up on the story before the unlikely duo did.
"I'm a fake journalist and I'm embarrassed these guys scooped me!" Stewart exclaimed.
Although he did poke fun at O'Keefe and Giles, including referring to them as cast members of High School Musical 3, Stewart appeared to be impressed that they did so much with so little resources.
"They did it for $3,000. That's [CNN host Wolf] Blitzer's monthy beard wet-vac budget. It probably costs CNN that much to turn on their hologram machine," Stewart chided.
Stewart, originally from Lawrenceville, NJ, is known to be highly critical of conservatives. But he has also gone after "real" news media that have failed to pick up important stories, as he did in this case.
O'Keefe, also a NJ native, is continuing to release the damning videos on BigGovernment.com.
Stewart tries to defend his home state of NJ after the corruption bust in July.

I would say it's about time Jon Steward woke up, but the real problem here is he one of the main reasons we are left with this mess in Washington. Well Jon, have you got the eyes fully open now? You figured out that the Main Stream Media is totally in the tank for OB -- really? Good work. Maybe it time to do some true reporting, maybe tell the real story, even if your show is fake news. Because like you said to Crammer on your show, "this **** is important man".

He's ALWAYS been talking about how crappy the mainstream media is.
ultra conserv- are you high? do you realize it wasn't just the media that you said was "in the tank" for obama that missed the story? Fox news missed it, Cnn missed it, and Nbc missed it- he ridiculed all three for dropping the ball on this one
i love how people talk trash about jon stewart. it really uplifts my spirits to know that someone who does something so light as comedy can offend diehard political prunes like ultra conserv. i mean, come on, even fox news missed this. the only reason they broke the story is because these two kids came to them first. forget political reasons, they found a serious abuse of information that needed to be brought to light. its obvious that 'official' people could miss because they rely heavily on the paperwork, which has now been proven to be falsified. but if two kids with a fur coat and mini cam can break this story, surely the highly resourced mass media(fox included) could have had the logistical capability to handle this investigation too, even when fox was making these allegations months ago. it still proves that they don't research what they way, they just take other people's word for it
There is barely any unbiased journalism going on at all. It scares me that a comedian like Jon is the most insightful critical voice I've heard on the air in a long while. All this "culture wars" nonsense (not to mention a lack of financial and professional independence) is murder on journalistic integrity. Fake news is the best we can get, I guess. It doesn't have to be PC, or pay lip service to its sponsors.
I would say it's about time Jon Steward woke up too, but I don't know who that is. Jon Stewart, on the other hand, is about the only news related show on TV I can stand to watch anymore.
