Casey James of 'American Idol' performs on 'Ellen' - As has been true with many of the last several contestants who have left the competition on American Idol, Casey James was invited on to The Ellen DeGeneres Show for a short interview and performance.
Mr. James said that he thinks of himself more as a musician than a singer, so that's why he didn't expect to get as far on Idol as he did. It wasn't that he didn't believe in himself, it was that he thought the Idol audiences would prefer a different style of music to what he likes to play.
Ms. DeGeneres said he was a great singer, and that she hopes in the audition phase of the competition next year, which she'll particpate for the first time, to encourage musicians like him and others to try out. She likes the idea of having a greater variety of singers on the show.
After talking a bit, Mr. James sang and played his guitar the Ray Charles hit (also covered by John Mayer), "I Don't Need No Doctor."
Casey James was the last contestant dropped from the competition before it goes to the finals between Crystal Bowersox and Lee DeWyze in the finale.
