Taylor Lautner is #4 and Robert Pattinson #6 on MTV News' Men of the Year list.
Taylor Lautner mattered more than Robert Pattinson in 2009, at least to MTV News.
In 2008, The Twilight Saga had one heartthrob and one heartthrob only: Robert Pattinson, actor in charge of the role of vampire Edward Cullen. But things changed in 2009, when The Twilight Saga: New Moon brought Taylor Lautner's werewolf Jacob Black and his shirtless ways to woo the story's heroine, Bella.
The fight was on, and fans all over the world took sides and became members of either Team Edward or Team Jacob, showcasing not only their love for either Robert Pattinson or Taylor Lautner, but also their opinion as to which Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) should ultimately end up with.
Taylor Lautner probably earned slot #4 on MTV News' Men of the Year list mostly because of his work on The Twilight Saga: New Moon. But he also filmed Eclipse (Twilight's third installment) and caused a huge stir appearing at MTV events and Comic-Con. And there was also his gig as SNL host and the romance with country superstar Taylor Swift (also his costar in the upcoming movie Valentine's Day).
Robert Pattinson is MTV News' #6 man of the Year also mainly because of New Moon, but there are also the millions of crazed fans wiling to do whatever it takes to get a close glimpse at him and the neverending speculation regarding his rumored romance with costar Kristen Stewart. But he also filmed Remember Me with Lost's Emilie de Ravin and signed on for the films Unbound Captives, with Rachel Weisz, and Bel Ami, where he will play Uma Thurman's love interest.

Pattinson. This has nothing to do with looks. They both are appealing, to each his own. The difference is the publicity machine that is Lautner. He and his handlers have had a goal in mind since before his selection for New Moon-to be a teen idol. From the canned, robotic responses during interviews, the often inappropriate suits, and the SNL appearance to Summit's direction to the cast to "sell" Lautner, a specic plan was mapped out. For Pattinson, there obviously was no such "plan". He has no publicists or significant handlers and always speaks his mind honestly sometimes with negative response. This, along with his shyness and self deprecating humor makes him incredibly appealing. The fact that MTV has both Lautner and Cyrus high on the list is indicative of the fact that they have fallen for the Disneyesque star creators and lost whatever "edge" they have left. Both Lautner and Pattinson will be very wealthy from Twilight, but, ultimately, long term success is up to them.
I think MTV let us down. 2009 belonged all to RPattz. They got it wrong. Fans around the WORLD not only USA are proved to it.
RPattz fans need to learn to be more neutral. This is not a beauty competition. Taylor deserved because he had to climb his way up from a supporting role in the first picture to win the hearts of the movie goers.And he did that in a major way.I'm not a teenager and I'm not a twihard, nor anybody I know is, but I, and all of my friends liked New moon only because of Taylor's character. RPattz just had his own thing going, Taylor had a bigger challenge, and he nailed it. So of course Lautner deserves to be higher ranked.

what cielo says is right taylor must always have felt inferior to rob becasue of robs worldly status and becasue rob was the lead of new moon but taylor through hard work and dedication beat all the oppostion and that is why he is more highly regarded on the mtv poll than rob!! i think this is a great for taylor who is only 17 and sometimes rob fans forget that little factor u are too busy pitting rob against taylor!!!
I do think Taylor deserves it. He fought with all he had to keep the part. That's dedication, people. How can you say he doesn't deserve it?

RPatzz fans need to learn to separate this from a team Eduard, team Jacob competition. Yes, most teenage girls who stay up voting in polls prefer Rpattz and they must be writing angry e-mails right now. RPattz is teen king, no doubt.It doesn't change the fact that Lautner had a great year and showed that he can hold his own on a movie and win over his audience. He showed studios that he is a dedicated solid actor and he's willing to work his ass off for a role and that's great for him. He deserves it...RPattz can have his first place in teen polls.

Taylor doesn't do a thing for me. It's Rob all the way. Rob is the reason I see the Twilight movies. It's Rob's chemistry with Kristen that sells the whole franchise. I never went back to see New Moon again because there just wasn't enought Edward and Bella together for me.

One thing: the one to make a impact on pop culture was Stephenie Meyer work. Robbert pattinson is the face of Edward, but he did not "create" Edward. Rpattz existed before Twilight and no one knew him. The books are the cause of this impact. The teens seem to forget that. Taylor Lautner is really hard working, so I guess he deserves more.
I was a hater. I couldn't stand Twilight. I thought it was boring as hell. BUt I loved New moon and watched it 6 times already, so did my sister who was also a Twilight hater and some of our friends did too. This was all because of Taylor. I noticed that Twihards tend to like Edward, but Jacob won over people who didn't like Twilight in the first place (such as myself). That's a freaking hard thing to do. So congrats Taylor, you deserve it.
how on earth did taylor come higher than robert? if it weren't for robert, i don't think the twilight franchise would be half as popular as it is now! and also, he's done other films this year besides from new moon.

Some people may not have watched New Moon BECAUSE of robert/taylor/kristen (although a lot of other people did) but Robert certainly played a huge role in making the twilight franchise known across the globe. Taylor did play a part but Robert is still the overall leading man in the franchise. And plus, the poll proves it!!! Robert: 68% Taylor: 32%

However people such as myself, who didn't care for Twilight in the first place, came to watch New moon because of Taylor.Without Taylor the franchise would be successfull? YES it would. Would it be as successfull as it is now, after New moon? NO it would not. New moon doubled the box office of the first movie.Did Rob had a part in that? Yes. Did Taylor had a part in that? BIG TIME.
It's not a susprise that Rob is winning this poll because:A)he is Edward and most fans(not all)have a hard time separating the character from the actor. It’s a real shame that this reporting is of the truest kind of negativity. Not only is the statement from Vanity Fair old news just like the VF article itself, it is piped up in painting a negative picture of RP. Just because of his outspoken opinions of the media that have imposed a jail sentence. You choose to use a most unflattering pic and call him names. Taylor deserves to be on the list but not above Pattinson. Taylor held his own in the feature, but without the chemistry between R & S and the anticipation from the books the film itself cannot even hold its own. The film only puts a face to the books. The same being said about K She deserves a higher spot then Cyrus But then again K is not willing to play the game. Its all politics of the industry.

Rob did deserve to be in the top 3. Twilight is a franchise hit b/c of Rob. Fans, including myself would not have returned for NM if it was not for Rob. Rob is way more popular worldwide than Taylor is for those of you who live in the USA. I think Taylor gained more tween fans this go around with NM, but definitely not more male fans or older women. I think that's a good thing b/c that gives Rob more credibility b/c he can hold an older demographic of fans. Guys were at home watching football, not going to see NM b/c of Taylor. Personally, I was disappointed in NM, b/c the film rushed thru all of the most romantic scenes with Edward and Bella. Anyways, i wish both Rob and Taylor much success.

Who went beyond and did something different in the world of acting. that my friends was Robert Pattinson .... he did remember me.... completely the opposite of twilight... he work hard making three movies in a year. i know that Taylor did a good job in New moon ... but reality he just did a short part in valentines day the movie and thats all.... for me is about difficulty and dedication.

Rob deserves to be higher than Taylor, the kid is full of himself...sooo Disney-like ...Rob is much more than that, a lot of people went to see New Moon because of Rob and because we were curious about it...however, I won't see it again until the DVD comes out.. Rob was the ONLY reason Twilight was that successful the movie remained in the movie theaters for a loooooong time, because of him...we wanted to see that beautiful man over and over again...
You can see how New Moon is getting less and less money each week, I wouldn't be surprised if it disappears from the theaters in a few weeks. I am sorry MTV the kid is not as big, charismatic and beautiful and humble as Rob NO NO NO Not even close!! Rob would've been #2 and Michael Jackson#1!!
This is about who plays the game and who doesnt. Taylor definitely plays the game. I am truly thankful for the fans etc etc. Rob and Kristen dont play the game, they are actors playing a part and they dont play the game with the media. They understand the fans' obsession, but rightly, so choose to keep their personal lives personal. Let's stand back a little, watch all 3 of them learn their craft a little more and see who lasts the time. I reckon all of them will, but in different ways and genres. Rob will go his own way and so will Kristen. Taylor will too, but at least lets not judge them yet - they have a long way to go before they can be judged on acting merit alone - and thatapplies to all of thjem. But me I am team edward - why - cost I like my men lean and mean. But it is just fantasy lets not forgot that and respect these guys fior their trade alone!! EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! That's awful... Taylor doesn't deserve to be in #4, because he is NOT an actor at all... He's just a guy who took his t-shirt of, showed his muscles and got some fans. He's so big-headed. Robet is a real actor. He played in theatre when he was 15, he was involved in many other movies before he took the role of Edward (one of them was the box office hit "Harry Potter 4). That's not fair. Rob deserves to be on the top. Taylor doesn't. The comparison is rediculus. Team Efward rules.

I think it's a bit hard to compare the two of them if you consider the age difference. Taylor is nearly 18 and Rob is 23. Of course Rob would have had much more roles and experience than Taylor. However, I don't remember anyone freaking out (like they do now) when Harry Potter 4 was out. He was the same Rob. Why weren't the fans obsessed with him back then as well? Still, let's not forget Taylor's hard work. He didn't put on muscles to gain more fans, he did it to keep his job. He also seems much more easy to talk to and I always find his interviews more fun to watch than Robert's. Plus, it's not like Taylor did nothing beside New Moon. He'll be in Valentine's Day (and it's a small part because there are a lot of big names in this movie, so everyone will have their couple of minutes story) and he's rumored to star in 2 action movies. All this came after New Moon and it's not because of his muscles. People saw in him great potential. I think great things awaits both Taylor and Robert.
