Neil Gaiman Visits Second City to Promote Underground City Novel

This week, author Neil Gaiman visits Chicago to promote his novel Neverwhere as part of the Chicago Public Library's One Book, One Chicago campaign. One Book, One Chicago is a city-wide book club created to unite Chicago around the shared reading of a single book. Neverwhere is the Spring 2011 pick, making it the 20th in a series of selections. Events for the event include two nights with New York Bestselling author, Neil Gaiman, as well as multiple talks around the city about graphic novels and parallel universes, as well as a writing contest hosted by DePaul University.

On Tuesday, April 12th at 6pm, Gaiman will appear in the Cindy Pritzker Auditorium at the Harold Washington Library Center alongside acclaimed author and Chicago native, Audrey Niffenegger. The talk will cover topics on writing, creativity, imagination, and the creation of fictional worlds. Unfortunately, a book signing will not take place, due to the large venue, but pre-signed books will be available for purchase.

On Wednesday, April 13th at 7pm, Gaiman will be giving a lecture at the University of Chicago in the Rockefeller Memorial Chapel that includes a reading from his novel Neverwhere. Gaiman will speak about writing, the author's life, art, twitter, and the life of Richard Mayhew, the main character from Gaiman's spotlighted novel. As with the previous event, a book signing will not take place, but pre-signed books will be available.

Neil Gaiman is an author of books for children, for young adults, and for adults. His adult novels include American Gods, Neverwhere, and Anansi Boys. His young adult and middle grade fiction feature Coraline, The Graveyard Book (winner of the 2010 Newberry Award), and Stardust. He is also well-known for his Sandman comic series.
