With apologies to Mr. Rodgers and Mr. Hammerstein.. yes, there is sound yoga, or more aptly, sound meditation. Two local yoga studios are offering opportunities for everyone to experience the healing power of sound meditation.

On Saturday, April 10th, from 7:00 to 8:30p Akasha Yoga offers “Fireworks for the Soul: A Sound Healing Concert of Tibetan Bowls, Planetary Gongs, & Sacred Instruments” with Tibetan Bowl Sound Healer, Diane Mandle.

In Sound Healing Tibetan bowls and gongs are used as a means to fill and cleanse the senses with the healing vibrations of a “tonal bath”. In this special concert, Diane uses musical instruments and sweeping colored lights to wash over her spectators, which enhances the entire experience. In addition, she tells stories and explains the importance of the instruments and the science behind their healing powers.

After the concert, expect to feel your energy restored and transformed. You’ll leave with heightened awareness and a deeper internal peace.
Registration for this event is $20 in advance, or $25 at the door. Please bring something comfortable to lie on.

On Saturday, April 24th from 7:00p to 8:30p, Sol Yoga Studios invites you to enjoy “Guided Sound Mediation” with Richard Learmont. This is an encore presentation, and based on the popularity of his first visit, one you won’t want to miss!

In this specialized meditation session, you’ll find yourself opening up and releasing deep-seated tensions so that you can come back home to your true Self, relaxed and aware. Richard utilizes the therapeutic powers of sound waves through classical Tibetan gongs and healing bowls, as well as bells, didgeridoos and drums.

The cost of this musical meditation is $25 if paid in advance, and $30 at the door. But hurry – space is limited. Because you will be lying on the floor, please wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat, blankets or other soft surface. It’s also suggested that you bring a neck support and a blanket if you tend to run cold.
