Suzanne Somers is the epitome of the adage: You are only as old as you feel. She is a dynamo of a woman with seemingly endless energy. At age 62, she looks and acts as if she has discovered the fountain of youth.
Somers has spent the last several years talking with doctors about health and has come up with eight steps to wellness, which she describes in her latest book Breakthrough: Eight Steps to Wellness. Step seven is exercise regularly.
Exercise has always been a part of Somers life, but it was just a few years ago that she discovered yoga. It only took one class for her to fall in love with what she describes as “this ritual of nature" and just weeks for her to realize the impact yoga was having on her body.
“I have always exercised. But there have always been pockets of fat here and there on my body that just wouldn’t go away no matter how hard I worked out. But with yoga, in a few weeks I began to see results such as I had never experienced before,” states Somers. “Literally, in a few months these problem areas were tighter, smaller, and smoother. I have not seen my hips, thighs and back look this good in years.”
Because of yoga Somers says she “feels better, lighter, calmer…and thinner.” She is thrilled with the flexibility she has achieved. “…Imagine being so flexible that I can do a back bend at sixty! Who would have thought!” She also reports that her singing has become effortless because she uses her yogic breath to pull the oxygen from the lowest part of her diaphragm. She recently told Larry King that she feels the best she’s ever felt in her life. “Every day is a good one.”
Somers will be in Las Vegas on May 23 and 24, 4:00 p.m. at the Las Vegas Hilton talking about her discoveries in health. Her lecture is called "Live to 100 with Great Health and Great Sex."
