(UPDATE 8/6/09: please note change of venue from Yoga on 6th to Infinity Park Event Center.)
"If there were a royal family of American yoga, Baron Baptiste would certainly be a prince," wrote Yoga Journal of the innovative Power Yoga pioneer. Born to parents who opened San Francisco’s first yoga studio in 1955, Baptiste has spent a lifetime refining his own adaptive style and bringing yoga to the mainstream (as well as to Raquel Welch and the NFL). On Saturday, October 3rd, he will share his practical-yet-transformative approach at Denver’s Infinity Park Event Center during a day-long Personal Revolution Immersion workshop.
Author of bestselling books Journey Into Power and 40 Days to Personal Revolution (as well as children’s book My Daddy is a Pretzel) and founder of the Baptiste Power Yoga Institute in Massachusetts, Baptiste has attracted a vast and loyal following by creating a yoga practice that pushes the boundaries of students’ preconceived limitations and espousing an overall philosophy that emphasizes authentic personal power. Those engaged in the practice are given methods to overcome the barriers that stand in the way of allowing themselves to revolutionize their body, their emotions, their relationships, and their ability to serve others. (Baptiste himself, while having a reputation as an instructor to the stars, has also worked with low-income families in the D.C. area and at-risk teens in South Central Los Angeles.)
"(Baron) is in search of being enlightened, as we (all) are," enthuses Yoga on 6th studio owner Ashley Phoenix. "He facilitates opening the door to our inner source of power."
Students of all levels, beginners included, are invited to spend the day with Baptiste exploring the asanas (poses), with breaks to allow for discussion and a midday break for lunch. Phoenix will be offering a special introductory Beginner's Power Vinyasa Yoga Workshop from 4-6:30 p.m. on September 19 for students new to the practice, the $40 cost of which may be applied toward the immersion.
Registration is now open for the event, which will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is $159. This is Baptiste’s first immersion workshop in Denver, and will undoubtedly sell out, so early registration is strongly recommended.
