Let it Go Yoga is a series of yoga postures wholly practiced lying down. It is designed to let gravity support the body and help realign the spine, easing out pain and stress through relaxation.
Let it Go Yoga is easy to learn, following either a teacher or the CD, and works the entire body in a sequence of 20 asanas (poses). At first glance this practice seems like an hour of lying around. As the postures progress it becomes apparent where the title phrase “Let it Go” originated. The student is challenged to allow the mind to be quiet amongst the messages from the body, some louder than others! As the tensions of the day are acknowledged and released, signals from the body are more easily heard and given attention.
Proceeding slowly and gently, the practice becomes a meditation, with ample time in each posture to let the body gently open. With eyes closed and mind focused on the breath, the student is invited deeper into the body, deeper into oneself.
Let it Go Yoga can be practiced every day. It is perfect for the beginner, people recovering from injury, and will add balance to an existing practice. The yoga itself is the teacher, your body the guide. This style is also great for those on a budget, as there are no props required. If you happen to have a mat and a blanket, these may be used but they’re not essential for the practice.
Sue Anne and Jim Parsons are Certified Yoga Instructors and registered with the national Yoga Alliance as 500 Hour Experienced Yoga Teachers. They have been teaching yoga in Santa Barbara since 1986 and have shared the many benefits of yoga with thousands of people. The Let it Go Yoga class is available on CD and is easy to follow from the first play. Listening to Sue Anne and Jim’s calm voices guiding the poses, and their sighing in unison encourages the student to relax and release. There is also a Let it Go Yoga book and DVD currently in production – be sure to check back for information on these guides.
