I was hoping this video might provide some insight into how BioShock's developers (2K, Digital Extremes) were planning on incorporporating the multi-player into the single player story line but this footage of the free-for-all or death match modes, which will also be included in the next installment, provided plenty to think about.
The commercial beforehand explains the multi-player conceit in which you are a Sinclair Solutions guinea pig. The video makes a clever reference to "bonus gifts" by which they mean perks for leveling.
The multi-player will include single player staples like turrets and vending machines but modified with multiplayer in mind. You will be able to hack but Digital Extremes have done away with the pipe mini games opting for a more streamlined time based system.
The footage of a player becoming a big daddy should excite anyone who enjoyed being a tank in Left 4 Dead. In BioShock 2 however, the transformation promises to play a much greater strategic role; as the big daddy will not be based on a random time trigger, but will spawn on the map to be fought over and used at the discretion of each competing team.
As to the strategic value of taking a picture of someone's dead body, your guess is as good as mine. Maybe there'll be some sort of photo challenge like Dead Rising or Skate but the progress bar and the fact that this team doesn't tend to be that dumb makes me think it'll be something much cooler.
