Non-purchasable Facebook & Twitter branded Xbox 360 consoles

Xbox Director of Programming, Major Nelson sent a tweet  (Twitter message) today showing off four Xbox 360 consoles that we the consumer will not be able to buy.

Though no doubt there are plenty who would buy up such neatly colored boxes, they were made specifically for the companies that Xbox 360 had announced partnership with during their E3 conference.

I do not usually agree with analyst Michael Pachter, but as the saying goes, even a broken clock is right twice a day.  He calls the integration of Facebook, Twitter, Last.fm, and Sky, "a glimpse into the future of the Xbox 360 as a home media/internet hub. I think that this announcement was far and away the most important one of the show, and think that the media completely missed its importance."

The final date has yet to be announced on when the company crossovers will take effect.  For now, enjoy some promotional screens of the services implemented on the system:

There is one part of the statment from Michael Pachter that I don't agree with. This isn't a glimpse into the future of the 360 as a media/internet hub. The 360 was designed with the vision of taking over the living room and gaining the interest of non-gamers while keeping the hardcore happy.
I've already reduced the amount of stuff we use. There is no more stereo rack system, just a receiver. The 360 is doing the work of the other components. It is the DVD (and HD-DVD R.I.P) player, Media Center Extender, Netflix player, MP3 streamer (from our PCs) and on occasion it's the Video Teleconference host when we do a video chat with buddies. They've already established the system as a media hub, this is just tacking on to the already existing value.

i love the 360 and i really wanna c it win this gen, aside from the graphic war vs ps3 its really the #1 comp. for the wii, stuff like this really gives the 360 the edge over comp. i love looking foward to new updates every year around spring and fall unlike the wii and ps3 (microsoft is a software company so theres comp. in this area)
