Probably one of the more interesting tweets I have seen in a while by someone in the industry, Guy Selga of Double Helix Games (formerly of Activision) takes a jab at gaming site giants, Eurogamer, Kotaku, Joystiq, and Gamespot. In case the Twitter message is taken down, here is a screengrab:
The link Guy has posted in regards to his thoughts is for MediaWhoreNetwork's post "Eurogamer Magically Changes Review Score". Eurogamer seems to have changed a review score for Grand Slam Tennis from 5/10 to 8/10. There is only speculation as to why Eurogamer changed the score, whether it be pressure from EA or having something to do with Wii Motion Plus controls on the dev kit they review was played on.
Still, it does make one wonder if calling out many game sites not involved with the incident is the right way to go. Also, will an employees thoughts on the matter taken to their personal Twitter feed have an effect on how we the gamers feel about the company as a whole? No matter if you agree with Guy's overall feelings on gaming journalists and the real pressure that sometimes happens within this industry, we can hopefully all agree this was not the best words chosen to express an opinion.
Update - Eurogamer editor Tom Bramwell had posted an entry regarding their review score for Grand Slam Tennis, in which they do say that the dev kit they reviewed the game on initially is the reasoning behind is why the score has changed:
"This morning we received a tip-off from our colleagues at Eurogamer.de that they had encountered substantial differences in Wii MotionPlus performance on their Wii debug review kit and their retail Wii console. Obviously this set off alarm bells - Kristan Reed had reviewed Grand Slam Tennis on a Wii debug kit.
With the gravity of that in mind, I went out and bought a boxed copy of Grand Slam Tennis and a WMP and hotfooted it round to Kristan's, where we both tested it out. Our German friends were absolutely right: there's a substantial, immediately noticeable difference between the responsiveness playing the game on a retail Wii."
