District 9 video game could pave new ground

A District 9 FPS would be a guarantee hit

A few months back I wrote a piece on how bad video game adaptations of film were as a whole and five possible games on current generation consoles that could break that trend should they be made some day. Well, I’m about to add one more film to that list that would have a chance to be a real hit if it were made.

You ready?

District 9. Yea, I know, no big surprise there, but when I was watching it with a packed house on Saturday night I just kept thinking over and over what an amazing game this could make if the adaptation was a side story, possibly something that happened in the first twenty years the aliens were on Earth or something in the future, possibly regarding District 10 and a return of Chris Johnson.

First off, let me say that I do realize that there is an online game at District9Game.com called “MNU Alert,” but I’m talking something more in-depth... like in an Aliens vs. Predator FPS style.

I really think this would be a lot of fun. Choose your “race” (for lack of a better term, don’t turn me into some kind of bigot here) from three options, Multinational United, Alien or Nigerian. Three really in-depth FPS campaigns that mix old school shoot ‘em ups with basic puzzle solving like in Half-Life 2. Along the way of each campaign could be possible alliances formed like Nigerian/Alien who try to blast the heck out of MNU and the city of Johannesburg in a totalitarian manor; or possibly an alliance between MNU and the Nigerians who are just trying to fight for human survival.

To make it even better, any of these alliances could be completely optional, giving the user his or her option to do whatever they want in this world with multiple endings for each campaign.

From the way I’m describing it, it sounds like BioWare might need to be behind the development of this one.

Oh, and finally, the multiplayer action in the game (yes, online enabled) would be in the form of team death match or capture the flag with a minor twist... All three “races” (yes, there’s that word again) playing at once to blow the heck out of each other. It would really make for a much more chaotic scene that would be sure to sell a lot of copies.

So, what do you think?

Note: If you haven’t seen this film yet, go do it! It will blow you away. I honestly feel that this was the best movie of the summer, by far.

I think that a third person free roaming game where you play as the aliens would be good, especially if it took place before the events of the movie

You hit the nail on the head with this. Just the way you describe it. Multiplayer with 3 teams all after each other in a Deathmatch, or capture the flag match. This seems like a no brainer, why hasn't a video game compamy picked up on this?

hey i was thinking the same thing it would have been so cool u choose what side u want to be on mnu or aliens and go through their lives. for aliens it should show how the mothership got there and put a crazy storyline behind it. for humans they would have to kill the aliens and stop them from destroring the planet lol dat would have been so cool
