The gaming community as a whole is generally a decent group of people, when face to face. Mix a competitive online gaming session with the anonymity the Internet provides and those decent people turn into a mob of racist, swearing, a-holes. A new patent awarded to Microsoft may change this.
Microsoft's patent is for technology that would allow real-time censoring of foul language. Sure we all think that potty mouthed 12 year olds are funny but it seems some parents don't. With MS trying to push the XBOX 360 into the casual market it only makes sense that they would try to clean up the service that they want grandma and little Timmy to use. There isn't any word yet as to whether or not this "service" will be optional and controlled by the parental control options in the dash.
Lets all hope MS will do right by their core audience and go the optional route, would you rather hear the frustrated swearing and name calling of your opponent or a long resounding BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP?

Dont get me wrong swearing has no place in the wrong situation e.g. halfway through a decent lap on forza but in the middle of a 18 rated game such as GTA it should be ok?

I have to admit, if it was optional, it might come in handy. For some reason, the Censor Beep tends to be funnier in some situations than an actual swear word on tv. Admittingly, people will prolly try to take advantage of this and just spam-curse over and over to make someone's ears go nuts. Optional I say, OPTIONAL!
And what about games that literally have swear words programmed into the AI?
sorry not good enough, people should be banned who use racist language its as simple as that, furthermore to say racist people are decent folk is another load of rubbish sure they will not say it to your face but the bottom line is they hate you because of your race so weather you say there good folk in your face has no place, there just bad people who need to be removed, no ifs no buts, would you walk past a little white girl getting abused beat up or even raped, and say to your self lets just censor it? no you would not. they should be banned as soon as the software indicates the offensive words you get banned simple forget censoring banned. just like we in england are kicking racism out of football we should do the same for xbox live.
