Teaching at private schools, great start for first year teachers
Teaching children is a both a rewarding and challenging experience, and for teachers seeking a job for the first time, a private school is a great place to start.
Finding a teaching job is nearly a full time job. Resumes, cover letters, portfolios, and interviews can be exhausting but rewarding. However, If you're ready to be a teacher and have decided that teaching is that career path for you, great! Why not try a private school? Private schools are a great place to find a job, even if you aren't a teacher.
If you've decided that teaching is the career path you'd like to take, great. Teaching at a private school has some great advantages, especially for the first year teachers:
- Teaching Requirements: you don't always have to have a teaching certificate, but it's plus if you do have one. Some private schools only require a bachelor or master's degree. Since many private schools are not run by the government, they do not have the same requirements for their teachers. Check it out, when you are looking for that teaching job don't hesitate to ask.
- Small Class Size=More Individualized Time: If you do become a teacher at a private school, you can look forward to smaller class. Since most private schools have a smaller population compared to public schools, you are able to spend more one on one time with your students. You can give your students the attention they need.
- Family!: Being a teacher in a private school also means that there is a smaller staff. With a smaller staff there is more time to get to know each other. With a great staff in your school you become a family and form a great working relationship. If you need help too, there's always someone there to offer great suggestions for your class.
- Support From Parents: With private education, parents, as well as the entire community gets involved. It's nice to have that communication with your parents so that they are aware of your students progress. Having great communication with parents, is a huge help in your first year and can put that fear of communicating at ease.
- Experience: If you are a first year teacher, remember that you are building a portfolio of experience. Though you may not have gotten a job at your dream school, a private school is a great place to start because you are building experience. Who knows where this job will lead you. You never know, you might love it there and decide to stay or move on to something better.
If teaching isn't for you, it's ok. There are still plenty of opportunities in the education field. Many of these position are referred to as a support staff position. They range from teacher's aides, cafeteria staff, secretary, etc. Don't hesitate to apply for these jobs either. They are a great start and sometime they offer these positions at part time, so if you have little ones you can still spend time with them at home!
