Louisiana judge resigns after uproar for refusing to marry interracial couple: update

According to a CNN Breaking News report this evening (November 3), Justice of the Peace Keith Bardwell, who became infamous recently for refusing to marry an interracial couple, has resigned. Denying accusations that he is a racist, he claimed that he did not marry interracial couples because he worries about the unborn children.
In fact, Justice of the Peace Bardwell had refused to marry other interracial couples prior to the most recent refusal that sparked the current controversy. While his resignation hopefully is good news for the citizens of Louisiana, it makes one wonder how he could have remained on the bench after refusing to marry others.
