RENT, the Pulitizer Prize and Tony Award winning musical, will be performed at the Jersey Shore Arts Center in Ocean Grove, New Jersey by NENAproductions Theater Project. Shows this week are on Friday, Oct. 23rd and Saturday, Oct. 24 at 8:00 p.m. and the following week Friday, Oct. 30th, Saturday, Oct. 31st at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 1 at 3:00. p.m. Tickets are $20 and seating is general admission. NENAproductions Theater Project is one of the first theatre companies in New Jersey to be granted the rights to present the full stage version of Jonathan Larson’s hit musical, RENT. RENT is a rock opera with music and lyrics by Jonathan Larson based on Giacomo Puccini’s opera, La Boheme. It tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York’s Lower East Side in the thriving days of Bohemian Alphabet City, under the shadow of AIDS. It tells the unforgettable story of a group of young artists learning to survive, falling in love, finding their voices and living for today.
The show is directed by NJACT award winning director Nick Montesano with musical direction by Jeff Brown. Choreography is by Nick Montesano and Stacy Copolla. The Assistant Director/Stage Manager is Donna Glasser and Arnold Teixeira is the Technical Director.
At a recent preview performance, the cast was introduced as they sang several songs from the show including a beautiful rendition of the title song from the show “Seasons of Love.” This preview showed a cast that is well prepared to deliver a fine show. The cast includes Jeffrey Fiorello as Mark Cohen, Matt DeMarco as Roger Davis and Tina Kaye is Mimi Marquez. Jessica Berger plays Maureen Johnson and Maggie Ferguson plays the role of Joanne Jefferson. Tom Collins is played by John Sechrist. Spiro Galiatsatos is cast in the role of Angel Schunard. James Michael Giberson plays Benny Coffin III.
The rest of the cast includes: Arnold Teixeira, Dannyelle Zwyan, Ryan Sabatos, Anthony Vitalo, James Steele, Katie Revier and Tania Joseph.
Special notes:
The Saturday, October 24th performance of RENT will feature an after show discussion with Fredi Walker-Browne. Walker-Brown originated the role of Joanne in the original New York Company of RENT.
