Friday night Franklin faced O'Dea in their first conference match up. This would have been a better match up two years ago, when the Irish still had Jamelle McMillan running the team. This year O'Dea isn't expected to do anything special in the post season. In the past when wins would come like the rain in Seattle -- they are struggling to get wins against quality opponents.
This helps explain the blowout win Franklin came out with. A lot of credit has to go to Franklin for playing hard, even when the game was out of reach. Franklin's floor leader did not disappoint. Peyton Siva had 25 points in their victory.
The loss gives the Irish a 3-3 conference record and drops their overall record to 5-4. The struggles of the Irish at this point of the season don't look good for how their season will end. It is unlikely that they will make any noise in the post season, but they are in a rebuilding period.
On the other side of the ball the win brings Franklin's conference record to 5-0 and an overall record of 9-0. The Quakers are living up to all expectations in the pre-season. They are motivated to win the 3A state title -- in their first season of 3A basketball. They have been a strong 4A team in the past and are hoping to build the same reputation in 3A. They are looking to add to their mantle, which has their most recent state title won in 2006. Siva is motivated to lead the Quakers to another title this season -- they have a strong chance to do this if they keep playing like they did Friday night.
