This past week I helped Emily Morse, of ”Sex With Emily” shoot a reality show pilot. As I interviewed her for my candidate pool our conversation trailed off to the topic of men and monogamy. "All men cheat", she summarized, and I sadly nodded my head. After thinking about it later I wished I had not left it on such a bitter note. The "man must cheat" dynamic is much more complex than that, just as men are much more complex than the stereotypical sex, and meat, and TV.
Here's the scoop. For all my male readers, you can skip to the next paragraph because you already know this. For my female readers, listen up: Men can love you profusely, a deep, total love, and still want to have sex with other women. Let me repeat: Men can love you and still want to have sex with other women.
Men. This is for you. Now you listen up. Your decision not to act on your urge to cheat is a conscientious decision that you can, and should, make if you care deeply about your woman. Your straying, even for just one night, hurts her far more than you can conceive. When she is in love, she would rather crawl through broken glass than have sex with another man. She doesn't understand your ability to love her, while simultaneously lusting after another. By choosing to act on your physical urges with out consideration for how it rips out her heart is selfish. Men who don't cheat are consciously not cheating, every single day. These men are strong men who love and care for their women and want to protect them from harm or pain. These are real men and should be celebrated as heroes.
