It's June, which means its time to start tie shopping for Dad. Or, this year you can try a unique Father's Day gift idea - a coffee club subscription. Coffee clubs work like this; you purchase a 3-month, 6-month, or full year subscription. For this, you receive one pound of coffee, either ground or whole beans, to your door every month. Some coffee clubs offer a different roast, others send a new single-origin coffee, or blends. You can also order flavored coffees, or even choose decaf. Look for coffee clubs that roast their own coffee to ensure freshness, and fair trade when possible.
Coffee, Tea, & Spice, based out of Talihina, Oklahoma offers a variety of coffee subscriptions, all shipping out a pound of coffee on the first of the month. They roast their own beans and have their own unique blends, including one called 'Time Warp' and a Coffee, Tea, & Spice French Roast. You can choose between whole bean, or ground, although they don't specify what type of ground, which means expect a drip coffee grind. Their Coffee Club 12 Month Dark Roast option is $178.50, plus shipping costs. You can also choose a 6-month subscription for just under $90.
Sacred Grounds, from northern California is a little more pricey, although they offer a higher end, sustainable product, and they send two 12 ounce bags each month, instead of one 16 ounce bag, so you actually get more coffee. Sacred Grounds serves only organic, environmentally friendly beans, roasted in house. They also offer to grind your beans, but allow you to choose what type of grind, whether it be cone filter, press pot, or espresso grind. Choose from Lands of Origin - dark or light, blends, or just simply all coffees. A 3-month subscription goes for $82.50 plus shipping.
Grounds for Change is where to go for fair trade, organic, shade grown coffee beans. You're guaranteed a great, socially conscious product, which they roast themselves. Grounds for Change mails out one pound per month, mailing on either the 5th or the 20th - your choice. They also send info cards with the coffee to learn about each place of origin, or info on coffee sustainability. Their Coffee Explorer subscriptions include single-origin beans from around the world, as well as well-traveled blends. A 3-month subscription is $57.95; a 6-month subscription is $114.95. The good news is that the shipping is included in the price.
Coffee clubs are a great way to sample a variety of different coffee varieties. They are also a fun gift, with something new every month - an easy way to compare and contrast types of coffee.
