On May 16 at 2 p.m., Georgia Birth Network and ICAN of Atlanta will be hosting a cesarean awareness rally outside Northside Hospital. Tittled "Cutting Through the Fear", the rally hopes to serve as a visual reminder of the current c-section rate. 

 

Interesting facts regarding c-sections as found on the Georgia Birth Network site:

Cesarean Facts
- The World Health Organization recommends a 10%-15% cesarean rate.
- The national cesarean rate is 31.8%.
- An estimated 920,000 Cesarean births are performed each year.
- More than half the women that receive a cesarean do so with no medical reason.
- This poses unnecessary risk to moms & babies.
- The national VBAC rate is only 9.2%.
