My fifteen month old selecting her pumpkin.

Since moving to Atlanta eight years ago, one of the traditions our family looks forward to each fall is our trip to the pumpkin patch. Our first home was in Acworth, and so the first few years we traveled to Adairsville, to Pumpkin Patch Farm. My oldest son was 2 the first year we visited , and he loved pushing the wheelbarrow over to the pumpkins he wanted us to buy. We always left with gourds and way more pumpkins than we needed.

When we moved to East Cobb, we were happy to learn that there was a pumpkin patch closer to home. Located on Arnold Mill Road in Woodstock, Berry Patch Farms has many fun activities for kids of all ages. There is a small play area, a petting farm, a tractor hayride, and then of course the huge pumpkin patch with hundreds of different sized and shaped pumpkins. We've been fortunate to have beautiful Atlanta style fall weather each time we've gone there, which adds to our enjoyment of the day.

Last year we were unable to make our annual trek, so this year we introduced our daughter to pumpkin picking for the first time. She loved the hayride the best, but also had a blast walking through the pumpkin patch. As you can see above, she even tried to help by carrying her pumpkin back to the hayride.

The only thing that could have made the day more enjoyable was if we had remembered that the only methods of payment accepted are cash and checks. We were able to scrounge up $16. 75 (who carries cash anymore?), which was enough to get two big and four small pumpkins.  We had to forgo the hot cider and popcorn this time, but we've learned our lesson and next year will remember to bring cash, and will indulge then.

It's hard to believe pumpkin season is almost over! Soon I'll be making pies and breads using the pie pumpkins we brought home. And I'll be looking forward to next year.
