One of the funniest and scariest and most deliciously good times I've had in a movie theater ever. Raimi manages brilliantly to make that sort of movie I love--a genre movie that's also a parody of its genre--and it's hysterical, and full of great jump moments. I'm sure it would lose a lot of its effect on a TV screen, and a lot of its scares and rollercoaster fun with several repeat viewings, but I left the theater smiling giddily and with my adrenaline pumping, and that was more than enough. The cast is great, and manage to strike exactly the right balance between sincerity and self-awareness--indeed, the whole film finds that perfect balance, and lets us genuinely like and care for the characters, and also take joy in watching them be terrorized. It sounds sick and sadistic, but it's actually a much warmer and more human effect than most horror movies have, and although there's a lot of horror movie scares and Raimi-fluids, it's really a very tame PG-13, which is very refreshing. If you like Raimi or horror movies or comedies or good movies, see Drag Me To Hell.
