Richard Dutcher's Falling is one of the least-seen and most-talked-about movies there's ever been. After a special screening at the Sunstone symposium in the summer of 2007, the film had a one-week stint playing on one screen in Salt Lake City, and another very brief run in L.A. Since then, to my knowledge, the film hasn't been shown in a theater, and there still isn't a DVD. But that hasn't stopped the few people who've seen it from talking about it.
It's because it's that kind of a film. Clearly there are those who love it and those who loathe it. I think most are caught somewhere in the middle, simply trying to navigate its dense philosophical and theological implications. In any case, once you've seen it you feel compelled to sit down with someone else and discuss it--which can be very frustrating, since there aren't very many of us (I was lucky enough to be able to sit down with Dutcher himself, and you can read our conversation here). Here are links to some of the best and most interesting online dialogues about the film and about the filmmaker.
