If you have ever watched TLC's "Say Yes to the Dress", you have probably picked up some ideas and insight on how to approach finding "the one" - the one dress that is. (Unless you are fortunate enough to have a ceremony AND reception dress.) You may or may not get frustrated with the brides, consultants, dress choices, etc. Regardless, there are some valuable lessons this show teaches brides, so keep paying attention.
On today's re-run episode, a young lady described herself as "hippie chic" and insisted her budget was $2500 not to top $3200. The bride entered the stock room with her consultant and immediately, a stunning Reem Acra gown caught her eye. She insisted on trying it on. This happened before the consultant asked for the budget.
Five minutes later, this young bride was positively glowing with happiness over the gown she chose. Her family loved the dress, and she would have most certainly walked away with it. Here comes the BUT...the dress was $6300, nearly triple her budget.
The bride continued to try on dresses, but not surprisingly, nothing compared in her eyes, to the first Reem Acra gem. The consultant was upset that she couldn't make the sale not only for herself, but she wanted to give her bride the dress of her dreams. The family was upset that they were not aware of the price before she tried it on. Let's all remember here, the bride is the one who picked this dress first and insisted on trying it on before asking about the price.
The lesson learned here, dear brides, if you have a budget, make sure you are upfront and firm in communicating that to the consultant when it comes time to shop for your dress. As well, be informed about fabrics, details, labor, and the construction of the dress. If you want specific details, embellishments, etc., factor that in to the cost of the dress. Do not torture yourself if there is absolutely no way you can go above and beyond your budget, and don't be upset! There are thousands of stunning dresses out there, and you will be sure to find the dress of your dreams without breaking the bank.
