Secrets of the city are not just places and things, sometimes they are people too. I have found just the person who deserves recognition for her work. She has a style all her own and name that actually does her justice. She is know by many and wanted by all for her style. She makes the ordinary sensational she is Mz. Ktoure.
Who would have thought that we would have our own celebrity wardrobe stylist here in the DMV (living not commuting) I’m sure there are many but this article is about one. From marketing major to wardrobe stylist, she didn’t start out as a stylist, but has always had the eye for it. Taking classes at Virginia Union then Bowie State she majored in marketing but life pulled in another direction. She’s self taught from the heart, reading books and working at local fashion events such as DC Fashion Week. The year 2007 was her year; she got her working along side some local greats like Brain Vargas of Verdette Clothing (A Local Designer Label), she later became a Rep. for the line; in product placement and styling. She helped them, land one of their biggest celebrity clients a big name in the hip-hop/rap game back then. He saw her work and asked for her to be his stylist when he came to DC.
Her first photo shoot was only a year ago but she styles like a veteran of the industry. I had the pleasure of shadowing her at a photo shoot for Baltimore Designer Viola Ricci a local couture designer. It’s Memorial Day and she’s working while the rest of DC was on a mini vacay, but you can call this kind of work “work” this is not you 9-5 j-o-b where you answer to you know who. In this business Mz. Ktoure is in-charge of her own domain, she makes the calls, and she says what’s hot and what’s not.
In a loft in NW Washington, D.C. she’s working with Photographer Tony Veloz, Make-Up Artist Demi B. and Model Sophie (See Pictures). All working in unison to make a finished product theme named “In Her Natural Habitat”. The theme is African inspired, with animal prints, skins, feathers, straw and more. The model talented as ever gets into character and never misses a shot; a pro at just seventeen. Mz. Kouture worked her magic on anything she touched, “she’s an innovative stylist” says the model, i agree. It helps when you work with such a talented group of people as she had on this day. She makes glamour out of the ordinary, and transforms young women in to glamour goddesses.
D.C. holds a talented bunch models, wardrobe stylist, makeup artist and photographers, whoever said D.C. was uptight, ultra conservative and lacking flava in fashion. You haven’t worked with Mz. Ktoure and seen her work her fashion magic in a small loft in NW, D.C.
