Many make resolutions at the beginning of the year. Now, half-way into the year, it is the time to renew those resolutions.
Motivational speaker Cindy Kubica suggests celebrating July 1 as the Second Half of the New Year Day. Kubica lives in Nashville and is a whole health educator and life skills expert. As she said, “Many people tell me they no longer make resolutions because they know they’re not going to keep them.”
According to Kubica, the three most common reasons people abandon New Year resolution(s) are: lack of commitment, overzealousness and a lack of deadlines or check points. The lack of commitment usually includes a “yeah, right.” For example, someone might say, “I’ll stop smoking cold turkey - yeah, right!” Or, they may be over zealous. Such an unrealistic goal is to lose 50 pounds in one week. Finally, the resolution should be measurable. When there is no clear check point or deadline, it is difficult to see and make progress. That is true for goals as easily measured as weight loss, such as eight pounds in two months, yet also for abstract goals like being nicer. This could be measured in the number of cards sent, calls made or hugs given.
A resolution is a declaration or promise one make to oneself. To keep the promises Kubica recommends the following:
1. Start a new tradition of gathering friends and/or associates June 30.
3. At midnight, bring in the Second Half of the New Year with Champagne and a renewed commitment.
The Second Half of the New Year Day is official. It is registered with “Chase’s Calendar of Events” to help people stay on track. Chase’s is reknowned as the keeper of special days and mandates an intensive application and approval process.
Kubica inspires audiences around the country with her dynamic presentations on managing stress, work/life balance, and creating a healthier, more energized lifestyle. She is known as The Energy Coach.
