Guess who's coming to an Obama inauguration eve dinner -- his defeated rival, Senator John McCain (R-AZ).
President-elect Obama is hosting a dinner honoring McCain whose "lifetime of public service has been enhanced by a dedication to bipartisan achievement," the 2009 Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC2009) said in a statement January 10.
"In these times of great challenge and great change, leadership requires rising above the same old narrow partisanship," President-elect Obama said in the statement. Senator McCain "...has spent his life in service to his country, at each and every moment placing the interests of America before issues of political party. That is precisely the spirit of common purpose we need as we begin the work ahead."
"All three honorees have built reputations as leaders who work across the aisle" for our country's progress, PIC2009 added.
