Road trip!

If you'd like to spend a beautiful fall weekend exploring some of the sights of Chicago's far western suburbs, consider stopping in at these bakeries when you feel the need for something good to eat:

Cocoa Bean Fine Desserts and Pastry

11 South 7th St.

Geneva, IL  (630) 845-2990

Hours: Tuesday through Friday, 7 am to 5:30 pm; Saturday, 8 am to 4 pm; Sunday, 8 am to 2 pm. Closed Monday.

(Try their panini sandwiches for lunch.)

Blue Goose Market

300 S. 2nd St.

St. Charles, IL  (630) 584-0900

This supermarket is a St. Charles institution, and their popular bakery department is open on Sundays.

La Chicanita Bakery (or, La Chicanita panaderia y pasteleria), in two locations:

La Chicanita #1

215 Jackson St.

Aurora, IL  (630) 851-3939

Open daily, 5 am to 10 pm

La Chicanita #2

700 E. New York St.

Aurora, IL  (630) 499-8845

Sunday through Thursday, 5 am to 12 am

Friday and Saturday, 5 am to 3 pm.

All these bakeries are located within about half an hour of each other in this trio of suburbs strung along the Fox River. Happy shopping (and eating)!
